~ Buy 3 Bottles and Pay $130 net Each ~ This single vineyard wine is made from a hectare plot on 'Astéries' (rock limestone) soil between Château Fonroque and Clos Fourtet. The vines survived the frost of 1956 and are up to eighty years old. Panachéed in the old style (merlot interspersed with cabernet franc to ensure easy blending in the days before pumps) they are cropped down to four bunches per vine to reflect the terroir of the parcel. Unlike most of the wines of the Château, Les Astéries exhibits a strain of minerality that emphasizes the rocky sub-soil. The wine is pure vineyard rather than a winemaker's wine. JS 91-93, JCL 91, WE 93, WA 92+ Tasting note: A beautiful wine with gorgeous velvety texture and great depth. Layered, fairly dense with an array of flavours - plums, blackberries and hint of cedar. Lovely texture and length. Tasted twice, this wine showed well both times. (01-Apr-2013) [Asian Palate Jeannie Cho Lee] The 2012 is the first truly profound Canon under the administration of the Wertheimers, the family that owns the famous haute couture house of Chanel. Improvement has been noticeable for a number of years, but this wine is remarkable, particularly in view of a more challenging vintage. The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple,...

A beautiful effort, the medium to full-bodied 2008 demonstrates the resurgence in quality being enjoyed by this long-time Margaux underachiever. Perfumed aromas of licorice, spring flowers, black currants and subtle oak are followed by a soft, round, opulent, sexy, generous, savory wine revealing no hard edges. Enjoy this pure, seductive 2008 over the next 12-15 years. Robert Parker Jnr.

~Buy Six Bottles and Pay $52 net Each ~ WA 90-92. The 2013 Lanessan has quite a punchy, fruit-driven bouquet with well-integrated oak, a Lanessan with more sense of purpose than I have found in recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine blackberry and raspberry fruit, fine tannin, leading to a smooth and harmonious finish, which lingers nicely in the mouth. You know, this is the best Lanessan for a long time, perchance because Mon. De Bouard is consulting? NM Apr 2016. Floral nose and good firmness and depth. WA 93+ Another wine made by the superstar guru Nicolas Thienpont, this well-situated property of 37 acres on the high clay/limestone plateau in St.-Emilion has produced a blend of 84 % Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. A masculine, virile style of wine with an inky deep purple color, lots of crème de cassis and crushed rock and high tannin. This is thick and powerful, with a layered mouthfeel, good purity, earthiness and spice. Forget it for 4-5 years and drink if over the following two decades. RPJ Apr 2015.

WA 96 The 2012 is another truly great wine from Troplong Mondot. It’s always sentimental to taste this wine, realizing that proprietress Christine Valette (the larger-than-life heart and soul behind this estate) has passed away. She was one of the bright, shining stars of Bordeaux. Nevertheless, her legacy is certainly well-established, and the quality of this wine is beyond reproach. Inky bluish purple, its great notes of cassis, blackberry, licorice are followed by a full-bodied, opulently textured wine with stunning concentration, purity and overall balance. This wine is raised partially out of barrels of one or two wines. Our Bougogne presents with average color, moderately crimson in its youth, then becoming orange ruby after a few years of aging in bottle. The cherry and blackcurrant flavors are marked in its youth, after which appear animal fur and humus mixed with candied fruits.

Aloxe-Corton's vineyards were classified in 1982 by the INAO, the French government organization responsible for the country's appellation system. About one-third of the vineyard land within the Aloxe-Corton commune boundaries has been granted Premier Cru status, resulting in the creation of 15 climats. Given that more than half of the commune had already been marked as Grand Cru, this is a respectable proportion.

Over the centuries, the wines of Pommard and Volnay have alternately shared popularity, according to the fashions of the age. When powerful, full-bodied wines are in favor (as in the current global market), Pommard enjoys the limelight. But when silkier, smoother wines are in demand, Volnay takes...
