Batch Size 170 bottles. Gold Medal, Spirits Business 2017. Similar to Blended Malt #1, this is hardly a blended malt at all. In fact it’s almost exclusively Speyside single malt from one of the most popular distilleries in the world that’s been ‘teaspooned’ (that to say, an imperceptible amount of another well-loved single malt has been added). All hail the spoon once again! Tasting notes: Nose: Creamy and aromatic with spiced sultanas and a little cooked banana. Palate: Earthy spice, custard and soft oak with mango and fig rolls. Finish: Cedar and Demerara sugar.
Batch Size 409 bottles. Our Blended Malt #2 was almost entirely made using the whisky from a very well-loved distillery in the Speyside region, though after distillation the whisky was spooned - what this means is that a touch of whisky from another distillery is added. This stops other companies from releasing the distillery’s whisky under their name. Spooning - write it down in your copy-books now. There will be a test. Our label shows a congregation of whisky enthusiasts honouring the spoon. They really love that spoon. Tasting notes: Nose: Lots of baked goods, including apple pies and cinnamon rolls. Hints of raisins and vanilla-y...
Batch Size 508 bottles. How times have changed. Glentauchers like to keep things very traditional, not using computers to make their whisky. However, back in the day, the Glentauchers distillery was interested in experimenting in new ways to distill malt whiskies, which led to their foray into ‘silent malt’ (the process of making malt whisky in column stills). This trend happily didn't catch on and pot stills are used to this day by Scotch whisky distilleries to make their malt whisky. As you can see from our label, showing the exact moment Glentauchers decided to try out ‘silent malt’ production, obscene amounts of facial hair was...
Taiwan is a relatively new arrival on the whisky scene but its certainly making up for lost time. Set up by King Car - the country`s largest food and beverage producers in 1979, this technologically advanced operation is located in Yuanshan, a town in the north of Taiwan. It produces 6 million bottles per year now with major exports all over the world. "Tropical influences like mango and melon, with vanilla, pears and chocolate. Clear and clean finish with hints of citrus oil." RR4WEA World Whisky Awards 2015: - Best Asia Whisky - Category Winner - Best Single Malt Whisky "Tastes like Bourbon-infused milk chocolate..." - World Whisky Awards...
Since 1816, Lagavulin single malt Scotch whisky has been made in a picturesque huddle of buildings on Lagavulin Bay. Perhaps the most beautifully situated of distilleries, Lagavulin makes arguably the most intense, smoky and rich whisky of all. For many, this is the definitive Islay malt. A much sought-after single malt with the massive peat-smoke that's typical of southern Islay - but also offering a dryness that turns it into a truly interesting dram. Lagavulin is an intense, smoky-sweet single malt with seaweed flavours and a huge finish, aged in oak casks for at least sixteen years. STRENGTH: 43% ABV APPEARANCE : Deep amber gold. NOSE :...
Vigilance and craftsmanship hold the key to this amazing fusion of flavours. The first maturation is in ex-bourbon barrels, followed by transfer to charred American white oak casks (quercus alba in Latin). This second intense maturation creates a blend of peat smoke balanced with warm, spicy vanilla notes. The length of time this powerful stage takes varies, meaning each cask is carefully selected by hand to ensure the exact balance of flavours.
Laphroaig Quarter Cask offers an irresistible doubling of flavour, due to the double maturation in two barrels made of American oak. Still-maturing whisky from our standard ex-bourbon barrels is transferred to quarter casks and left to rest in our warehouse just a stone’s throw from the Atlantic shore. This process represents Laphroaig breathing new life into a once-defunct tradition: the use of the smaller cask size, which ensures increased contact with the oak, creating a soft and velvety edge to complement Laphroaig’s distinctive peatiness. On the nose the sensation is toffee and caramel, caused by the vanillas and tannins of the...
Batch Size 267 bottles. Loch Lomond is an adaptable distillery in the Highlands, producing a wide variety of whisky styles, from blends to blended malts, from single malts to single grains. Their selection of stills allows this - they have copper pots stills, a Coffey still and column stills in the same building! Well, at least that what some people say. Other people have opened their eyes to the real world and discovered the truth about how they can produce such a varied selection of whiskies - the distillers at Loch Lomond are wizards. The lot of them! Wizards, we tells ya! We even took this very real picture of one of the very real...
