5 stars Sam Kim. Gold Medal, China Wine and Spirits Awards, 2015. The 2015 Le Phant Blanc is a blend of Pinot Gris (48%), Viognier (47%) and Gewurztraminer (5%) from our coastal Te Awanga Vineyard. The grapes were hand harvested, whole-bunch pressed and co-fermented. A small proportion was barrel fermented and the rest in stainless steel, temperature-controlled tanks. This distinctive blend of aromatic white varieties brings together subtle spicy characters and floral notes with excellent freshness and texture.
The 2016 Pinot Gris is produced from our Te Awanga Estate vineyard. The wine displays the hallmark characteristics of this exciting variety. Aromas of white peach and pear are displayed on the nose. It is a soft and elegant Pinot Gris with a well-balanced rich palate. Light golden in the glass, the nose an array of cloves, pear, marzipan, honey dew and orange zest. A substantial and powerful palate, initially smooth rounded stone-fruit, progressing to a core of chalky phenolic, expanding into a very long pure finish. 2015 Pinot Gris Rockburn Pinot Gris features ripe peach, nectarine and Nashi pear aromas, heralding a vibrantly fruity off-dry palate. This combined with a very long, zesty finish complements rich or light seafood meals or most Asian-spiced cuisine, though its extraordinary versatility should be experienced over a wide range of dishes. This wine is drinking very well now and is expected to mellow over the next 3-4 years.

Pinot Gris produces low yields of concentrated grapes on a stony riverbed terrace in our Marlborough vineyard. Grapes are gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to give intense floral and fresh pear flavours. Raymond Chan 94 points. A gorgeous pinot gris; grapes were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed, then fermented in seasoned oak barrels using indigenous yeasts. The fragrant and complex bouquet shows baked pear, mango, orange peel and spice characters, leading to a succulent palate that is concentrated and richly textured. This hugely appealing wine is elegantly opulent and very delicious. At its best: now to 2020.
