I remember a series of television adverts back in Australia where a few fat hairy blokes got together and flogged discount clothing. I am convinced that they were fresh back from a long lunch each time they shot the segments, as they would literally fall over each other in their excitement to tell the viewers about the "Crazy Low Price Price" for Mens board-shorts and such. I reckon they would be dynamite on the Shopping Channel in the States, where all one gets to look at are size zero, emaciated bimbettes selling Horizontal TV Grillers for a price as unbelievable as their push-up bras.
I have to say that it gets me going to be able to offer a wine like Dead Arm - which is so much a part of the super premium Australian establishment. There is a whole lot of blurb about how a certain virus attacks the vine - killing half of the vine hence imparting a amazingly concentrated wine, but this brand has its own kind of appeal and with only 30 dozen to sell, I will not take up too much of your Friday afternoon time.
Jay Miller of Wine Advocate has recently been reading the Aussie wine industry the riot act, with ratings almost as dire as Moody`s. The good thing about this is that when Wine Advocate gives a 95 point rating these days, it has a serious significance because there are not a lot of Australian wines who are members of the 90+ club anymore.
This is what he had to say about the d`Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2006:-
"d'Arenberg's flagship is the 2006 The Dead Arm Shiraz. Opaque purple-colored, the nose is reticent but gives up aromas of meat, bacon, game, truffles, blueberry, and blackberry. Firm, layered, and complex, this beautifully rendered Shiraz demands a decade of cellaring.
Wine Advocate - Feb 2009
95+/100"
The Offer: d`Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2006 - $65 net. There are no limitations on volume.
Cellaring Note: JM talks about a drinking window of 2018-2025, but if you like your wines - big, juicy and powerful, this wine is good to go...
