One can be so easily seduced by the allure of Pinot Noir. It is a sexy wine in most people’s books, with luscious spicy curves and a velvet embrace. Problem is - like most curvaceous pleasures; it tends to cost a fair bit.

Those who don`t love it - respect it - and generally drink it all the same. The bewildering obsession with single clones, specific flower pollen influences and geographical delineations to within a meter of soil leaves me feeling very much like a kindergarten beginner in the school of wine playing with my Lego blocks and needing a lie-down after lunch.

Once you fall for Pinot however, she is a beguiling lover and almost impossible to resist.

Escarpment Winery - located in the Martinborough region, counts virtual royalty like Ata Rangi and Dry River as neighbours, and is a relative newcomer to the game - having started out in 1999, (the vineyards that have been there a fair while before.)  They have quickly taken pride of place amongst the serious collectors, with their single vineyard stuff being allocated to Aussie retailers in single bottles in many circumstances.

Escarpment hit global notice when it was rated as top ranking in the whole of New Zealand, along with Felton Rd, Ata Rangi and Mount Difficulty by writers Matthew Jukes and Tyson Stelzer in their "Great Pinot Noir Classification".

Such is the nature of global trading, that we have found a large amount of the range, but due to the value of the source currency and cost of premium air freight, the single vineyards in this offer constitute significant value relative to the entry level option. It makes sense in my view to push the boat out on this one and purchase some of the Single Vineyard stuff - your palate (and mates) will thank you for it.

We are bidding on the open market for this stock so it will be 24 hours before we can confirm your purchases.
