There is a quiet storm brewing in the district of Canberra, where Tim Kirkus is hitting sixes out of the park vintage after vintage with his wines. Getting his Shiraz Viognier 2009 - nominated "Wine of the Year" by Jeremy Oliver in 2011 is one thing but then coming back with a "Best Shiraz of the Year" and 97 point rating from Oliver the very next year has to be something of a historical achievement.

This record is made even more impressive by the fact that the vintage was not easy in the region by any account. The wine has been heralded as a major success by all who have a platform to stand on. (Some noted on the right hand side of this note).

The taunt power of this wine is a distinct pleasure, with every drop jam-packed with his very specific trademark of spice, brooding dark fruit and fresh cracked pepper. This cool climate wine somehow contains all the power and muscle of the remarkably rich and exciting fruit, wrapping it in the gentlest of tannins and most exciting of acids to make this one of those "must haves" for the vintage.

Prices of this wine are sky high in Australia and in order for us to make the wine accessible to as many people as possible, the winery has asked that we band the wine in the following ratio...

I always buck at banded wines, but in this instance there is not one single wine from the available inventory that is not a pleasure to open. I have indicated with **** which I would pick up as a preference.
