I remember all too well the first time I visited Coonawarra, as we landed  in the middle of an electrical storm in a chartered plane which felt like it was held together with chicken wire and duct tape. I was convinced that I was going to end this particular life buried up to my armpits in the "terra rossa" soil which makes up the mere 14 kilometre strip so famous for its Cabernet plantings.

Happily we staggered out in one piece although these days I drive when visiting this particular region, as landing there was second only to Wellington airport (NZ) for sheer terror in my book...

Lindeman’s has three flagship wines in its stable - the St George (Cabernet) , the Pyrus (Cab Merlot Malbec) and Limestone Ridge (Shiraz Cab).

The big deal about the St George, is that it comes from the tiny 12 hectare "St George" vineyard - which boasts some of the oldest and most respected plantings of Cabernet in all of Australia. The vineyard sits right on top of the long 14 kilometre spine of soft porous limestone rock with the covering of rich red "terra rossa" soil - the combination of the two is what makes Coonawarra wine so famous.

The gurus have the following to say about this particular vintage:-

"Full bodied - engaging complex - long, lovely and rich" - pretty much the perfect date for a Saturday night.

The Offer: Lindeman’s St George Cabernet 2006

The Price: $69 Net

Cellaring Notes: Aged for 15 months in new and old French Barriques, this wine can be drunk now but will repay you in spades if you wait 12-18 months. Watching this wine age is a thing of beauty - especially if you own a few bottles of it for regular evaluations.

You are able to store this with us for $3.60 per case per month.

All buyers of this allocation of St George will be given first right of refusal on the Pyrus and Limestone allocation once they are confirmed later this week.
