Torbreck has enjoyed a great reputation for its high end - high quality shiraz and grenache. Winemaker and owner - Dave Powell was once described as " The Greatest New World Winemaker on the Planet" by Robert Parker Jnr.

Most of the wines produced by Torbreck are in the higher price end of the wine rack, so being able to show Powell`s prowess for a price tag as low as $45 makes a whole lot of sense.

This wine had been created for the portfolio of a wine investment company about eight years ago. The company has not lasted but the wine has - at a significant discount to what the market normally would demand from the Torbreck line-up of wines.

It won a Blue Gold Medal at the Sydney International Wine Competiton in 2005.

Tasting Notes:-  I am not huge for the usual laboured tasting notes, but these are highly pursuasive.

"This is a superb example of the Torbreck wine making style. Rich and luxuriant oozing with blackberry tar and licorice aromas. Very faint smoky oak is apparent across the fine slippery palate. A long somewhat spicy finish with some fruit sweetness from the Grenache. A well balanced wine, better for the few years bottle age. Irresistible stuff."
