Jeremy Oliver (The Australian Wine Annual 2016) ~ 91 points ~ "The 2014 Chardonnay is a standout......Great value!.....Complex and mineral..... it’s smooth and creamy, with vibrant flavours of juicy melon, grapefruit, peach and creamy, nutty undertones finishing long and taut...."
The fruit for this wine came from five different vineyards in the Yarra Valley: Sexton, Tarraford, Arthurs Creek, Quarry Ridge and Primavera. A moderate year but with an accelerated final stage to ripening due to some relatively warm nights. Fruit flavours are very much in the primary zone. Small crops with intense flavours, solid natural acidity - this hand picked wine is selected from parcels from our estate vineyards. Lightly whole bunch pressed; Indigenous fermentation in new and seasoned French Barriques and puncheons.
Pale gold in the glass. Freshly cut white peach aromas, orange zest, grapefruit pith and hints of fresh ginger with notes of candle wax. On the palate, stone fruit, grapefruit and star anise come together in a wine that is tight and crisp initially, but opens into a long fine texture with lingering touches of spice.
James Halliday - Marked as 'special value'
“A complex bouquet, with some funky elements sets the scene; the palate swells with stone fruit and creamy/figgy nuances, but just when you think this may be too much of a good thing, citrussy acidity sweeps the mouth clean and refreshed”.
