Oh this is lovely! The finest 1er Cru in Chablis. The vines of this 1 ha vineyard plot are over 60 years old - all hand harvested and fermented purely in tank and then aged in tank for a further 16 months. A yield of only 33hl/ha has resulted in a wine of great intensity. WINERY NOTES: Grape: 100% Chardonnay. Harvest period: End of Sept, Early Oct. Age : 55 years old by Massale Selection. Exposure: South-East. Ground: Predominantly calcareous clay. Yield: 55 hectoliters per hectare. Manual harvesting. Cultivation: 12 to 18 months. Tasting: Powerful and complex long-keeping wine. All our wines are cultivated, filtered and bottled by us. Montee de Tonnerre is a Premier Cru climat on the eastern side of the Serein river in Chablis. The vineyard's southwesterly aspect and high-quality Kimmeridgian soils have led to its classification as a Premier Cru, and it shares many geological similarities to the Chablis Grand Cru hill, which lies just a little way to the north. The Chardonnay-based wines made in Montee de Tonnerre tend to be minerally and intense, with nutty, honeyed characters emerging with age. The vineyard is located in the very heart of Chablis – the Serein river flows along its western border, and the town of Chablis itself is just a little way to the north. Montee de Tonnerre is split only from the Grand Cru vineyards by a narrow ravine – the iconic white soils of Blanchot are visible from the hillside here. This proximity to Chablis' most famous vineyards has contributed to Montee de Tonnerre's excellent reputation and relative fame among Chablis Premier Cru climats.

BILL NELSON BURGUNDY REPORT:

Less impact but more overt aromatic complexity – lots of citrus and still some florals. Incisive again, super mineral – I would say intense but all the complexity and minerality moderate that – but this is a great wine! Gorgeously mineral finishing.
