WA 92 The 2006 Bordeaux varietals begin with the 2006 Merlot Brookman Vineyard. Velvety textured and approachable now, it will nevertheless evolve for 5-7 years and drink well through 2020. JM Feb 2009.
WA 94 The impressive 2001 Syrah Brookmans Vineyard reveals a saturated blue/purple color as well as gorgeous aromas of smoke, licorice, acacia flowers, and black fruits. Full-bodied and dense, with nearly the volume and palate persistence of the 2002, this killer Syrah should age effortlessly for 20 years. RPJ Aug 2003.
WA 92 The 2006 Grenache Onkaparinga was reviewed as a barrel sample in Issue 173. Purple-colored, it has a reticent bouquet of black cherry, plum, and boysenberry. Layered on the palate with ample sweet fruit, this lengthy effort will deliver pleasure through 2016. JM Dec 2009.
WA 95 The 2005 Syrah Onkaparinga delivers scents of toasty oak, crushed rock, pencil lead, game, bacon, and blueberry. Voluptuous but impeccably balanced, it has enough structure to evolve for 8-10 years and should drink well through 2030. JM Oct 2007.
WA 94. The 2006 Syrah Onkaparinga was reviewed as a barrel sample in Issue 173. From a better vintage, it is a fragrant, relatively forward, spicy, layered and friendly Syrah that will evolve for another 4-6 years. JM Dec 2009.
WA 92 The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Sandown Vineyard is a more structured wine that will profit from 6-8 years of additional cellaring. Its drinking window will extend from 2015 to 2031. JM Oct 2009.
WA 98 The flagship of Kilikanoon is the 2006 Attunga 1865 Shiraz. Thick and rich, it coats the glass with glycerin. It gives up a brooding bouquet of wood smoke, game, truffle, espresso, leather, blueberry, and blackberry leading to a massive, masculine, full-bore Shiraz with dense, spicy fruit, a splendid integration of oak, tannin, and acidity, and a 60-second finish. It merits a decade of cellaring and will reward those with discipline with 25 years of pleasurable drinking from 2016 to 2041. JM Feb 2009
“The Single Vineyard range is an exciting development for McWilliam’s winemaking. Being site specific they showcase individual quality and personality, delivering wines of nuance and detail. This enables our viticulture and winemaking teams to push the quality and learn more about the terroir of each vineyard.” Andrew Higgins – McWilliam’s Premium Winemaker. WINERY TASTING NOTES Colour: Pale straw yellow. Aroma: Pristine grapefruit, green apple and white nectarine with complex notes of fennel. Restrained barrel-derived cinnamon and subtle struck-flint aromatics allude to the purity and intensity of this wine. Palate: Seamlessly...
Mountadam has some of the most enviable resources available for Chardonnay with many varietal clones, aged vineyards and geographical aspects. 5 vineyard components are selected. This is all about the fruit not the oak. Racy, fresh peach and pear on the nose, more peach, white stony fruit and crisp acidity in the mouth. There is tremendous depth of flavour which lingers elegantly on the palate. It is hard to think of anything better at the money.
WAS $65 Winery Notes: The 2005 vintage was similar to 2004; only lower yielding which has made this year’s Cab more compact and dense than any year previous. This is classic Rusden Cab Sav- herbaceous and vegetative, with richness and generosity from the Barossa climate, with a wild rum cigar finish. 600 cases produced.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon “Boundaries” spent 30 months in oak, 30% new American and 70% used French. Rusden is owned by Dennis and Christian Canute with Christian serving as winemaker. The vines were planted in the early 1970s in the heart of the Barossa. Christian Canute has a unique ability to produce wines of great finesse combined with the intensity and power obtained from Barossa Valley fruit. Winermaker's Notes: This is a testament to how well our Cabernet stands up to adverse conditions. 06 was a tough year for anyone growing Cabernet. I decided to roll the dice and let it hang later than the Grenache because everything I’d...
JH 93 Tasting note: Dense, inky wine; extremely rich and layered, with more light and shade than the Black Puma. Likewise a tank sample; likewise headed to higher points. (22-Feb-2007) [James Halliday] Drink 2007-2025. The hand picked fruit is sourced entirely from Warrenmang’s low yielding, non-irrigated estate vineyard. Fermented in small open vats, basket pressed and matured in French and American oak for 18 months, the wine displays complex spice, plum and pepper that reflects its own unique terroir as it has done for over 30 years. Cellaring optional 5-10+ yrs. This wine has a 33 year pedigree that speaks for itself. Always a 5 star...
