Wine Advocate 94 points - The 2015 Villemaurine is blended of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged in 70% new and 30% one-year-old oak barrels for 16 months. Medium garnet-purple in color, it is scented of crushed black cherries, mulberries and blackberry preserves with cedar chest and rose hip hints. Medium to full-bodied with firm, grainy tannins, it’s tightly knit with loads of layers and wonderful purity, finishing with great length and depth. (Feb 2018)
James Suckling 95 points - Crushed violet and blueberry aromas with a chalky edge. Smells restrained. The palate has a wealth of fresh flavors. So supple and even. Great depth and detail here. Try from 2022.
Sporting a dense ruby/purple color as well as terrific purity in its cassis, currants, leafy herbs, spring flowers and spicy oak aromas and flavors, the 2015 Chateau Villemaurine is fresh and lively on the palate, with again, terrific purity, and a straight, tight, focused feel that needs 4-5 years of cellaring. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from an 11-hectare vineyard located just above La Clotte and Le Prieure, this serious, age-worthy 2015 is well worth seeking out. (Feb 2018)
