The Cantina Kaltern 2019 Alto Adige Merlot Riserva Lasón (with 30,000 bottles made) is a bright and fragrant expression of this international grape with pretty aromas of wild berry, blueberry, mint, mountain herb and sweet potting soil. The wine shows a mid-weight style with firmness and good freshness, and you recognize the cool-climate alpine fruit, especially in this balanced vintage. It ages in barrique for 12 months (with 25% new oak). ML Dec 2022. TASTING NOTES – rich, brilliant ruby red – ripe blackberries, wild cherries and licorice on the nose – medium-bodied on the palate, with perfectly balanced tannins, a pleasing, drinkable wine, finishes with a touch of ripe, sweet fruit.
