"There's a lot happening here, all of it good. 80% is sourced from the Eden Valley, 20% the Barossa Valley, co-fermented on skins for 14 days, matured in French oak (10% new), the barrel size ranging from 225l to 2250l. There's a poultice of red and black fruits and ribbons of fine, ripe tannins. You can't deny a wine like this." James Halliday Wine Companion Aug 2020, 96/100 "Best of the Best by Variety 2021" HEAD RED is a barrel cull from Barossa vineyards including The Blonde; The Brunette; and ‘The Contrarian’ single vineyard wines. It allows a pre-view of the vintage quality to come and keeps the quality of the Single vineyard wines as high as possible. The wine always receives 12 months barrel age in a new French foudre (2250L) with predominantly older French hogsheads for the balance, allowing the vintage and terroir to show clearly. It’s also a chance for me to play with the old adage, ;The whole is greater than the sum of its part. Certainly the best value and most traditional wine style of the portfolio. Bottled unfined and unfiltered under stelvin capsule. #HEAD
