90 points, Silver Medal, San Francisco International Wine Challenge 2020. Wine Enthusiast 89-90 points. "Creeping back up to the quality of 2016, before the tricky '17 and '18 vintages, this release of relatively small batch Sauvignon is a charming, fruity little number. Peach and pineapple are backed by slightly reductive, white spice notes. It's the play between freshness and texture on the palate that reels you in. Slightly creamy in the mouth, it slithers over the tongue before being lifted to freshness by bright acidity." Wine Spectator. "The majority of Marlborough sauvignon blancs are blends from several vineyards, but single-vineyard...
Grape variety is Glera (100%). This Bepin d' Eto Prosecco Superiore has a light straw colour. At first on the nose freshly baked bread followed by fruit such as peach, apples and pears with a refined impression of rose petals. In the mouth, the wine has a fresh and sharp but smooth acidity. Slightly sweet despite its denotation of Extra Dry - the Italians beat to their own drum.
Pale straw yellow color with greenish reflections, impeccable in the clarity enriched by a minute and incessant perlage very bright. The olfactory stage is composed of tones of exotic fruit, acacia, wild flowers, citrus fruits and suffused trace of minerality, flint, Mediterranean bunch. At the sip it shows a remarkable personality, which makes use of a perfect balance and an important flavour. The mineral finish is long and fresh, trademarks for the Rive region. Steely and dry. Conegliano lies in the Valdobiaddene region of Veneto from which the very best of prosecco is sourced.. In terms of prestige in the hierarchy of prosecco it sits 2 rungs below the sebregion of Cartizze. There are many other cheaper versions available in the market but for the few dollars more that the good stuff demands in price, there really is no point in skimping.
We have been looking for a good example of this style for a long time and we think we have it nailed with this one. Too often you will find sparkling moscato expressed as overly sweet, cloying and boring. This beauty however has a great acid backbone that lifts the fruit, tames the sweetness in the middle palate and delivers a long and deliciously sweet finish with no hint of cloying. Delightful as an aperatif, served ice cold.
Hand-picked, 100% whole bunch pressed, Wild ferment, totally unfiltered, aged in French oak puncheons in the Sancerre style. This is an artisinal wine of extraordinary purity. and finesse. 94 Points “Oak fermented and matured sauvignon blanc that's as much about texture as it is about grapefruit, guava, struck flint, mineral and passionfruit flavours. An impressive wine with power and purity." Bob Campbell MW, Real Reviews. 13/5/2019 #sauv
Bob Campbell MW 93 points. “Meta’ means transformation, in this case by botrytis influence. It’s a rich and flavoursome wine with peach, honey, grapefruit marmalade and musk flavours. Initial sweetness contrasts with subtle steely acidity on the lengthy finish.” Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review. 5/2/2019 WINERY NOTE: We chose the name ‘Meta’ for our botrytised, late harvested Riesling, as it embodies the remarkable change of condition the grapes undergo as they are transformed by noble rot over the final weeks of Autumn. From healthy fruit into shrivelled but concentrated, intensely sweet berries; once harvested these have the...
Cameron Douglas MS 2019 Blank Canvas Escaroth Chardonnay 94 Points Intense aromas of wood smoke and barrel spice then ruby grapefruit, peach and baked orchard fruits. Youthful and very inviting bouquet. On the palate - weighty, silky, warm, fleshy, spicy, smoky and dry. Fruits flavours reflect the nose with yellow fleshed stone fruits, some apple and grapefruit. Lovely wine on the palate - a Chardonnay lovers paradise. Still developing so no rush to drink till mid, even end of, 2021 and through 2025. Bob Campbell MW 2019 Blank Canvas Escaroth Chardonnay 94 Points From a north-facing slope in the Southern Valleys Taylor Pass. Concentrated...
Bob Campbell MW 95 points. Best Buy under $30, Gourmet Traveller. Top Minor Varietal White, Taste Magazine. A wine of wonderful, pure aromatics this Gruner exemplifies classic notes of mandarin and ripe peach with an underlying trace of white pepper. The oak featuring in the wine is only obvious if you are told about it – it is there to provide richness and weight to the mid-palate, which is why we chose large French oak puncheons to do the job. A model vintage in Marlborough provided warm sunny days and cool nights which enabled all-important retention of acidity and ripeness of fruit. The result is a well-structured, luscious rendition...
Bob Campbell MW 93 points. Single vineyard Awatere Valley. “From the Blind River vineyard in the Awatere Valley. A powerful riesling with lime, lemon zest and subtle mineral flavours. Low pH and assertive acidity balances around 23g/l of residual sugar and builds a lovely tension to give a medium-dry finish. An impressive wine that will develop well.” 16/7/2018 93 Points. BC.
Bob Campbell MW 95 points (equal high score for NZ sauvignon blanc) "Rich, concentrated sauvignon blanc with green capsicum, passionfruit, subtle box hedge flavours and a pleasing saline-mineral character. Good purity and mouthwatering, fruity acidity." Consistently among New Zealand's Top Rated Sauvignon Blanc wines. Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, for grown-ups. This single vineyard rendition of Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the Holdaway Family vineyard at Dillons Point – our favourite sub region for the variety. It is a classic expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, being 100% tank fermented, but it offers complexity of...
Matthew Jukes, Vineyard Magazine, Feb 2020. "This is a remarkable wine. Served blind I cannot believe that anyone would think it came from Dorset and I would venture that most tasters would head straight to Chablis for their answer. This only underlines what a special site Bride Valley is and how prescient Steven and Bella Spurrier were when they planted vines on their property. This is a stunning chardonnay with more precision and poise than you could possibly expect." Jancis Robinson Wine Review 16.5/20. "Dorset. Picked from vines that are not yet nine years old on the last day of the harvest (late October) and this is the first vintage in...
TASTING NOTES – brilliant straw-yellow – full of tropical fruit aromas, especially pineapple and banana, just a hint of oak, with vanilla and butter rounding off this expressive nose – full-bodied and balanced on the palate, long lingering finish with echoes of ripe fruit.
Wine Advocate 92+. The 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Soll is a vivid and bright expression that boasts enormous purity and focus. The bouquet is redolent of lime, white peach, crushed stone and wild sage with white rose or honeysuckle. There is so much precision and linearity here, and these qualities go a long way to add to the wine's charm and staying power. You can't knock that low price either. This is a fine, buttoned-up expression of Pinot Grigio with 25,000 bottles hitting the market in October 2020. ML Sep 2020.
Wine Advocate 93 points. The 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Vial reveals a luminous appearance and brilliant golden highlights. The bouquet opens quickly to reveal orchard fruit, quince and Golden Delicious apple. Beyond that lovey primary fruit, the wine also offers background tones of almond, turmeric spice and crushed limestone. Grapes are sourced from an east-facing site with loamy conglomerate soils with chalky gravel and porphyry sand. The is a lean-bodied wine, but there is enough power and natural heft to pair with shellfish or white meat. You get terrific value, and this 60,000-bottle release will hit the market in October 2020. I...

Wine Advocate 91+. The Cantina Tramin 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Moriz is another terrific entry-level wine from Northern Italy. You simply can't get this level of quality and freshness, especially where white wines are concerned. The signature grape of Alto Adige is Pinot Bianco, and you get pristine aromas of peach, quince and white melon here. Those fruity tones are followed by crushed stone, saffron and almond. This wine is aged in steel tank with a smaller 25% that goes into large oak casks. This helps to develop the mouthfeel of the wine. Some 60,000 bottles were released. ML Sep 2020. Moriz Pinot Bianco is sourced from vineyards...
WA 89+. The Cantina Tramin 2019 Alto Adige Chardonnay is a streamlined and informal wine that hits all the basic pleasure points. This entry-level Chardonnay is made in a simple manner, aged and fermented in stainless steel, and released early in order to capture the youthful character of the fruit. An ample 120,000 bottles were released at the beginning of the year. The wine is tonic and fresh with citrusy aromas, white rose and crunchy pear. Wine Advocate 91 points. Here's a surprise wine from Cantina Tramin that I have never previously encountered. The entry-level 2019 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Selida (with a large production of 200,000 bottles made) draws its fruit from a sloped 20-hectare parcel with inclines that rise from 300 to 500 meters above sea level with direct exposures to the mountain sunshine and cool nighttime temperatures. These conditions shape the focus and precision that you get in this wine. There are pretty aromas of fragrant white flower, honey, acacia, orange peel and crushed chalk. ML Sep 2020.
