Cameron Douglas MS 92 points. Bright and expressive nose with tropical notes of pineapple and mango. The palate is filled with fresh passionfruit and has vibrancy and texture that leads to a dry finish. Individual parcels of fruit were destemmed and fermented separately at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks, using various combinations of selected yeasts. Two parcels of late harvested fruit was whole bunch pressed to barrel for wild fermentation.

Variety: 100% Grechetto First vintage produced: 1989 Aging: 3 months in steel and minimum 3 months aging in the bottle Aroma: intense perfumes of exotic fruit and yellow peach, floral notes of freesia and hawthorn, pleasing chalkiness on the finish Taste: full, fresh, with a long persistance Serving suggestions: great aperitif wine or consumed with seafood, veal or poultry dishes. Aging potential: 3-5 years. This underpriced stunner is well known to Italians as a wonderfully refreshing white wine to be had chilled during summer. It is all about minerality...
Grape variety is Glera (100%). This Bepin d' Eto Prosecco Superiore has a light straw colour. At first on the nose freshly baked bread followed by fruit such as peach, apples and pears with a refined impression of rose petals. In the mouth, the wine has a fresh and sharp but smooth acidity. Slightly sweet despite its denotation of Extra Dry - the Italians beat to their own drum.
Pale straw yellow color with greenish reflections, impeccable in the clarity enriched by a minute and incessant perlage very bright. The olfactory stage is composed of tones of exotic fruit, acacia, wild flowers, citrus fruits and suffused trace of minerality, flint, Mediterranean bunch. At the sip it shows a remarkable personality, which makes use of a perfect balance and an important flavour. The mineral finish is long and fresh, trademarks for the Rive region. Steely and dry. Conegliano lies in the Valdobiaddene region of Veneto from which the very best of prosecco is sourced.. In terms of prestige in the hierarchy of prosecco it sits 2 rungs below the sebregion of Cartizze. There are many other cheaper versions available in the market but for the few dollars more that the good stuff demands in price, there really is no point in skimping.
We have been looking for a good example of this style for a long time and we think we have it nailed with this one. Too often you will find sparkling moscato expressed as overly sweet, cloying and boring. This beauty however has a great acid backbone that lifts the fruit, tames the sweetness in the middle palate and delivers a long and deliciously sweet finish with no hint of cloying. Delightful as an aperatif, served ice cold.
96 Points - Outstanding "Immediately complex and enticing bouquet with aromas of the variety with a deep core of savoury complexity, lees and barrel ferment derived scents. Aromas of honeysuckle and grapefruit, some tropical fruit, wild flowers, sage and fresh herbs, hay and silty soil minerality. Fantastic on the palate with textures and flavours of complexity, variety, soil and palate tension - with amazing salty acidity, hold, release and finish. What’s not to like! Best drinking upon purchase and through 2028+." Cameron Douglas MS June 2021. 95 Points & Wine of the Week / Top-Rank Wine “Made with 100% wild yeast fermentation in...
96 Points 'Full golden colour, brilliant. The bouquet is honeyed and rich, with some marmalade and fruit compote nuances, nutty background. In the mouth, it has intense flavour and is very frisky with elevated acidity, which undercuts the substantial sweetness. A glorious wine of great drive and energy.' Huon Hooke, The Real Review 23/09/20 WINERY NOTE: We chose the name ‘Meta’ for our botrytised, late harvested Riesling, as it embodies the remarkable change of condition the grapes undergo as they are transformed by noble rot over the final weeks of Autumn. From healthy fruit into shrivelled but concentrated, intensely sweet berries;...
Bob Campbell MW 95 points. Best Buy under $30, Gourmet Traveller. Top Minor Varietal White, Taste Magazine. A wine of wonderful, pure aromatics this Gruner exemplifies classic notes of mandarin and ripe peach with an underlying trace of white pepper. The oak featuring in the wine is only obvious if you are told about it – it is there to provide richness and weight to the mid-palate, which is why we chose large French oak puncheons to do the job. A model vintage in Marlborough provided warm sunny days and cool nights which enabled all-important retention of acidity and ripeness of fruit. The result is a well-structured, luscious rendition...
95 Points - "Concentrated, flavoursome sauvignon blanc with passionfruit, guava, feijoa and grapefruit characters supported by fruity acidity that helps drive a lengthy finish. A classy wine from a top vintage and low-yielding vines." Bob Campbell MW 01/09/2021 Winemaker's Notes: This single vineyard rendition of Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the Holdaway Family vineyard at Dillons Point – our favourite sub region for the variety. It is a classic expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, being 100% tank fermented, but it offers complexity of texture and a mineral drive that summons river stones and sea spray. Blackcurrant, guava and...
Tim Atkin MW 93 points. The Kaaimansgat or Crocodile’s Lair vineyard is hidden away in the Elands Kloof Valley behind the village of Villiersdorp, just 80km from Hermanus. A beautiful spot inside a blind valley nestled amongst majestic mountains. Bouchard Finlayson has been linked directly to this vineyard for close to twenty-four years. It is located 700m above sea level, ripens a month later than other Cape Chardonnays and benefits enormously from cool autumn temperatures. The vines are not irrigated and they produce small berries of high skin to juice ratio, which adds an extra flavour component to this superior wine. The essence of...
James Suckling 91 points. A blend of Sauvignon blanc and viognier. Brancaia Il Bianco is a fresh and floral white characterised by a straw yellow color. The nose opens with a pleasant fruity bouquet that is transmitted to the fresh and delicate palate, with a pleasantly balanced acidity. Fruity character with plenty of dried-apples, mangoes and pineapple . Medium body and bright acidity. Fresh finish. Perfect to accompany fish and shellfish dishes, it is ideal in combination with first courses, mushroom risotto and white meats.
Matthew Jukes, Vineyard Magazine, Feb 2020. "This is a remarkable wine. Served blind I cannot believe that anyone would think it came from Dorset and I would venture that most tasters would head straight to Chablis for their answer. This only underlines what a special site Bride Valley is and how prescient Steven and Bella Spurrier were when they planted vines on their property. This is a stunning chardonnay with more precision and poise than you could possibly expect." Silver Medal at the illustrious WineGB Awards 2020, judged by Oz Clarke, Susie Barrie MW, and Rebecca Palmer MW. WINERY Note: Fine bright yellow with green tints, nose...

Wine Advocate 93+. The Cantina Kaltern 2019 Alto Adige Chardonnay offers a fresh and light expression of the grape in which the purity of the naked fruit is given highest priority. Wine Advocate 90 points. The Cantina Kaltern 2019 Alto Adige Sauvignon opens to a luminous and fresh appearance, backed by vivid aromas of citrus, passion fruit and minty apple. This is a pristine and clearly defined Sauvignon Blanc that promotes the tonic, fresh and tangy qualities of high-altitude winemaking in the Italian Dolomites. If you want a classic expression of a grape matched beautifully to its territory, look no further than this value wine. ML Sep 2020.
Wine Advocate 92 points. The Cantina Tramin 2020 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Moriz is a relatively new entry in my annual tasting calendar and is a wine I'd encourage readers to try, especially if they are enamored with the crispness and freshness that comes so naturally to Italian Pinot Bianco. There is a spicy element to the wine with crisp apple and white licorice, but you also get crushed mineral and drying limestone that would be lovely with fried whole-belly clams and a green side salad. The best news is the terrific value you get with Moriz in this release of 70,000 bottles.ML Sept 2021. Moriz Pinot Bianco is sourced from vineyards...
