Wine Advocate 93 points. Winemaker Helen Masters builds complexity into the 2019 Te Wa Sauvignon Blanc by incorporating some skin contact (15%), a good bit of barrel fermentation and aging (40%), some malolactic, and indigenous ferments throughout. The impressive result offers up scents of orange marmalade, nectarines and gooseberries, while the medium-bodied palate is unusually silky for Sauvignon Blanc, gliding easily into a long, textural finish. To Masters's great credit, all of the parts come together harmoniously, with none of the individual aspects sticking out. JC Jun 2021. Cameron Douglas MS 92 points. Bright and expressive nose...

We have been looking for a good example of this style for a long time and we think we have it nailed with this one. Too often you will find sparkling moscato expressed as overly sweet, cloying and boring. This beauty however has a great acid backbone that lifts the fruit, tames the sweetness in the middle palate and delivers a long and deliciously sweet finish with no hint of cloying. Delightful as an aperatif, served ice cold.
96 Points 'Full golden colour, brilliant. The bouquet is honeyed and rich, with some marmalade and fruit compote nuances, nutty background. In the mouth, it has intense flavour and is very frisky with elevated acidity, which undercuts the substantial sweetness. A glorious wine of great drive and energy.' Huon Hooke, The Real Review 23/09/20 WINERY NOTE: We chose the name ‘Meta’ for our botrytised, late harvested Riesling, as it embodies the remarkable change of condition the grapes undergo as they are transformed by noble rot over the final weeks of Autumn. From healthy fruit into shrivelled but concentrated, intensely sweet berries;...

Wine Advocate 91 points. This is a pleasantly fragrant white that offers steady aromatic and floral intensity, but it doesn't go too far. The Cantina Kaltern 2020 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Campaner shows white flowers, tropical fruit, night-blooming jasmine, acacia honey and crushed stone. This wine embraces all those characteristic varietal aromas with whole-hearted intensity. It's the perfect fit for a grilled mahi-mahi on a balmy evening. ML Sep 2021.
Luca Maroni 94/99 The Alto Adige Chardonnay Saleit of the Kaltern-Caldaro winery is born in vineyards located in the municipality of Caldaro, in the province of Bolzano. "The Cantina Kaltern 2020 Alto Adige Chardonnay Saleit offers underlined primary fruit intensity with orchard fruit, nectarine, lemon zest and a touch of warm custard cream that gives more depth and complexity to the bouquet. The mid-weight approach on offer here gives the wine extra dimension and enables it to wrap smoothly over the palate. This release of about 40,000 bottles would be terrific with a baked, breaded cod." WA 93 It is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes,...
Wine Advocate 91 points. The Cantina Kaltern 2020 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Soll shows straightforward aromas of summer straw and cut grass, with fresh primary notes of white peach and minty apple. This easy-drinking Pinot Grigio delivers terrific linearity and sharpness with a direct and immediate personality. It also shows a nicely executed finish with good freshness and plenty of subtle mineral and crushed stone. ML Sept 2021.
Wine Advocate 92 points. This is a very nice and very balanced wine with a silky texture and a streamlined mouthfeel. The Cantina Kaltern 2020 Alto Adige Sauvignon Stern is redolent of grapefruit, white flower and sweet sage. The wine does not show those overtly green notes of kiwi or tomato leaf that you sometimes get with this grape. Instead, the aromas focus on pale yellow and white fruits, with hints of crushed stone, making it a nice choice for cherrystones on the half shell. This is a strictly fruit-driven expression of this semi-aromatic variety in a release of 60,000 bottles.ML Sep 2021.
Wine Advocate 93 points. In this edition of 50,000 bottles, the 2020 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Vial presents a classic expression of this excellent winemaking region in the far north of Italy. The wine represents an ideal match of grape variety and territory with a clear and exacting bouquet, followed by good dimension and firmness. The rather neutral personality of the aromas, with white peach, honey and pear, makes this wine ideal to serve with a delicate fish or crabmeat. Pretty notes of crushed white rock help to extend the mouthfeel, add momentum and conjure up visions of the Dolomite cliffs. ML Sep 2020.
James Suckling 91 points. ORIGIN For a long time, no distinction was made between the grape varieties Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay, as the differences are difficult for the eye to detect. Chardonnay has been cultivated in Alto Adige for about 150 years and is now one of the leading white wine varieties. TASTING NOTES – brilliant yellow – fruit-dominated aromas of banana and ripe pears - minerally
The Müller Thurgau variety, also known as Rivaner or Riesling X Sylvaner, is a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royal. It was developed in 1882 by Professor Müller from the Swiss canton of Thurgau. TASTING NOTES – bright yellow-green – aromas of peach, nutmeg and elderberry – juicy, round and balanced, aromatic on the finish.
Wine Advocate 92 points. This is a simple and fresh expression with an accessible and easy personality for a cheesy chicken enchilada verde. The 2020 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco is tangy and spicy with white peach, crushed stone and even a distant dusting of white pepper. You get an extra dose of energy and electricity as the wine hits the palate, thanks to all that high-altitude mountain freshness. You shouldn't have much trouble finding one of these 350,000 terrific (and well-priced) bottles. ML Sep 2021.
Wine Advocate 91 points. Zippy, tight and tonic, the Cantina Kaltern 2020 Alto Adige Sauvignon is very true to the grape. The wine offers slightly green overtones of lime, tomato leaf and fresh kiwi that enhance a fresh and lifted bouquet. The wine is simple and streamlined, but those pointed varietal aromas really do pop from the glass with extra intensity in this balanced and satisfying vintage of 140,000 bottles. It's a good friend to a Caprese salad with extra mozzarella. ML Sep 2021. James Suckling 92 points.
