A delicious off dry style from a cooler vintage for Central Otago. Whole bunch pressed, fermentation in a mixture stainless steel barrels and tanks, wild yeasts, no temperature control and aged on gross less for 3 months. Mount Pleasant Estate Semillon 2023 [JH 95]

Pressing Matters Riesling R Zero 2022 [JH 93]
Tight, coiled and pristinely focused with pure lemon, crunchy green apple, grapefruit and lemon fruit notes and hints of crushed stone, fennel, flint, orange blossom, lemongrass and crisp pear. There are some light mountain herb tones on the palate, which shows superb tension and a minerally velocity that is quite something, finishing riverstone-dry and thirst-slakingly refreshing. Pressing Matters Riesling R139 2023 375ml [JH 96]
James Halliday Wine Companion 96 points. Cane-cut Coal River riesling weighing in at around 136g/L RS. Straw in the glass with characters of apple, lime, peach, candied citrus rind, clover and orange blossom, apple pie, crushed riverstone and crème brûlée. Once again that beautiful acidity struts its stuff, drawing all the rich flavours into relief and applying tension and velocity in the process, finishing long and unctuous. Superb. 96 points. Pressing Matters Riesling R69 2022 [JH 95]
Weighing in at 9.2% alcohol, this is what the Germans would refer to as a 'breakfast wine', a term that I love. The RS69 here denotes 69g RS in the wine, so think medium sweet. It's peachy with lemon drop, grapefruit zest, white flowers, crushed stone and a suggestion of spearmint and fennel further back. It's delicious. Pressing Matters Riesling R9 2022 [JH 94]
I love the 'R' designations on the Pressing Matters rieslings. From R0 for bone-dry to R139 for sweet, they are an indication of the RS in the wine. The R9, in theory, should teeter on that fulcrum between dry and off-dry, but that crystalline Tasmanian acidity tempers any sweetness and it appears dry. Pressing Matters Riesling R9 2023 [JH 95]
R9 = 9g/L of RS, so this is a (very delicious) wine that walks the line between dry and off-dry. Light straw with a flash of green and aromas of freshly squeezed lime, lemon and green apple sorbet along with citrus blossom, stone and clover. Wonderful focus and tension, just a suggestion of phenolic texture and that wicked Tasmanian mineral line that gets the saliva going. So good. 95 points. Dave Brookes, May 2025.

Tasmania just keeps on punching out excellent and curiously different wines. Here is another. COLOUR Cloudy. A vibrant lemon colour with a hint of tropical gold. VITICULTURE The Viognier is grown on a single vineyard, South Westerly slope about 6 km from False Bay which enjoys cool maritime on shore breezes from the Atlantic. Excellent bone dry prosecco that ticks all the boxes. Pure fruit, excellent persistent bead, crisp acidity and clean, dry finish. DOCG quality through and through. Conegliano lies in the Valdobiaddene region of Veneto from which the very best of prosecco is sourced.. In terms of prestige in the hierarchy of prosecco it sits 2 rungs below the subregion of Cartizze (see Villa Sandi for our version).There are many other cheaper versions available in the market but for the few dollars more that the good stuff demands in price, there really is no point in skimping.
