Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2018 – 94 Points Bob Campbell | The Real Review Aromatic pinot noir with an appealing mix of cherry, plum, mint, dried herbs, and spicy and stemmy flavours. A supple, attractive wine that’s perhaps not as concentrated as its distinguished stable mate, but represents excellent value at this price. A wine of character and class. September 2019. Looking more and more like a junior Ata Rangi as those 'young' vines grow up to more than 20 years old and each new vintage is released. It's succulent, briary and charry with chewiness from excellent skin tannins and just enough (old) oak. '... a bit of grunt in there'...
5 Stars & 98/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2019 (2017 Vintage) "Offering graceful power and immense complexity, the wine shows dark cherry, dark mushroom, floral, fragrant spice and toasted almond characters on the nose with nuances of charcuterie and floral. It’s elegant and sophisticated on the palate with exceptional depth and concentration, seamlessly structured by silky tannins, finishing impressively long and engaging." 98/100 Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com, October 2019 (2017 Vintage) "Really pristine fruit aromas here with such pure, ripe red cherries and roses, as well as gently earthy and spicy nuances. Cameron Douglas 94 points, Bob Campbell 93 points, James Suckling 93 points. Cameron Douglas MS. What a great bouquet of Syrah, fresh, peppery & fruity. Violets, brown baking spices and toasty oak. Equally engaging on the palate with a core of salty, ripe red berry fruit flavours, pepper and olive, some meaty fleshy moments, firm tannins, a back bone of acidity and long finish. A decent complexity, layered, balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2025+. 94 Points. "Strongly peppery on the nose – absolutely spot-on for the style. There's loads of fresh red fruit and a big smack of acidity too, keeping the palate sharp and refreshed....
Bob Campbell MW 95 points Dry-farmed, north facing slope in the Southern Valleys, 50% whole-clusters. wine description: The bouquet is detailed and perfumed featuring fresh cherry fruit, wild flowers, black tea and Asian spice. The generous berry fruits are coated with layers of fine silky tannin creating an elegantly structured mid palate; while more complex floral and spice notes evolve on a powerful and sustained finish. winemakers comments: Our Mata-Au vineyards are located in the Lowburn and Parkburn areas of the Cromwell basin. Made by the team at Rockburn. Winery Note: Our Devil’s Staircase wines are inspired by the winding road leading from Queenstown to Kingston along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Sourced from several Central Otago vineyards, the Devil’s Staircase Pinot Noir takes the willing down into the realm of decadence and Bacchanalian delights. Here, everything is pleasure spiced up with a bit of naughty. The unrelenting Central Otago environment tortures the vines whose twisted limbs produce a wine worthy of absolution; strong and sensual with lashings of dark fruit, sinfully succulent and devilishly good. The flavours are practically immoral, full of...

This ‘Stone’ wine is an expression of Syrah from our vineyard sited at the heart of Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District. It is a wine grown from ‘young soil with an old soul’. "It’s a very sleek, polished wine showing ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit, with some hints of liquorice, tar and cedar. There’s a bit of black pepper, but the smooth, ripe fruit, coupled with some vanilla sweetness from the oak, leads the flavour profile."- Jamie Goode, 94 points. A wine of power and poise, displaying characters spanning the spectrum from floral to animal: violet, baked plums, olives, dark meat. Bob Campbell 93 points. A classic Fromm Vineyard Pinot Noir is a multi-layered wine, very concentrated without appearing big or heavy, with positive tannin support. At its best it shows a masculine charm with a distinct terroir-related identity, aging superbly.
"Fragrant, floral aroma with violet, cherry and spice characters on the palate. A powerful pinot noir with a firm structure of drying tannins." BC
"Made from grapes grown in Gibbston Valley’s Gibbston vineyard with vines of up to 32 years old. Quite a dense, almost succulent pinot noir with plum, chocolate/mocha, liquorice and subtle dried herb flavours. Very limited production. In 2012 we first explored fermenting our Pinot Noir grapes in the vineyard where they grow. We captured the wild yeasts in situ and by happenstance found we extended the vintage influence, allowing the vagaries of the season’s weather to provide a defining mark upon the wine. Compelling and intense, this wine is layered with savoury flavours and juicy dense fruit. Initially fine grained in nature the palate stretches to showcase natural acidity and tension. A wine with finely balanced weight and complexity. Deep dark plum colour with a nose of cherry and plum. Vineyard elements of spice and blue flowers shine...

Wine Advocate 93 points. Muirkirk is located in the Bannockburn subregion, next to Felton Road. The 2015 Muirkirk Vineyard Pinot Noir is a slightly darker style than the other Mount Edward wines, with plummy fruit and notions of cola and spice.
