Something very special is happening at this gloriously picturesque winery, especially with regard to its pinot gris. The 2016 vintage was proclaimed by Winestate magazine as the best in NZ. Kiwi fruit, rock melon and white flesh stone-fruit are the obvious fruit aromas. We gladly welcome the stewed rhubarb character I often saw in our past Pinot gris. Bay leaf, ground galangal, and other Indian spices like cardamom and caraway seed add further interest. Candle nuts and vanilla pod bring a grounding effect and entice to finally start tasting! Raymond Chan 18.5+/20, Sam Kim Wine Orbit 93 points. Winery Notes: It is an aromatic white blend showing stone fruit characters and honeysuckle on the nose with baked golden apple on the palate. The 2016 Le Phant Blanc is a blend of 65 % Viognier, 27% Pinot Gris and 8% Gewurztraminer. All the fruit are from our Te Awanga Vineyard. A small portion is barrel fermented to add density to the middle palate.

WINERY NOTES: Pinot Gris but not as you know it, This is all about savoury goodness. Hand harvested in April at around 8 tonnes per hectare. The grapes were whole bunch pressed, fermented at cool temperatures using a mixture of wild yeasts before 6 months on lees. Pear, spice and citrus aromas are followed by flavours of stonefruit with a delicate creamy like texture, all underpinned by savoury, mineral notes and refreshing acidity. WINERY NOTES: Our Pinot Gris features ripe peach, nectarine and Nashi pear aromas, heralding a vibrantly fruity, luscious palate.
