WINERY NOTE: Escaroth’s fire-breathing dragon has found a pile of gold and sat on it. The riches are our new parcel of Chardonnay nestled at the very top of Escaroth’s north-facing slope in the Southern Valleys’ Taylor Pass. Growers Andy and Kyna have tended the vines zealously since this parcel’s reincarnation to Clone 95 chardonnay. This inaugural vintage has bowled us over with its bright, zesty grapefruit and lemon notes coupled with brioche, musk and savoury toastiness. There is an oyster-shell, chalky texture that is borne upon precise, defined acidity. Wild fermentation, zero battonage, natural malolactic fermentation and a...
WINERY NOTE: The ‘Reed’ Chardonnay is an incredibly textured, savoury wine. It summons a tightly-coiled white peach, grapefruit and toasted hazelnut aroma profile, which is complemented by complex flint and silex nuances. Its vividly sketched acidity allows it to carry the powerful but savoury oak in a defined yet impressive manner. This is a wine for drinking now for its crystalline purity, or cellaring and reaping the benefits of tertiary development in many years to come.
Bob Campbell MW 92 points. Taut, linear, low-key chardonnay with gentle grapefruit, spice, ginger, toast and subtle oak flavours. An appealing, seamless wine with a silken texture and a little alcohol evident adding heat to the finish."
WINERY NOTES: The grapes were whole bunch pressed and settled for 12 hours before being barreled down into a combination of Burgundy barrels (30% new). The wine was then aged in barrel for 11.5 months and additional 1 month on lees in stainless steel tank. Minimal malolactic fermentation. Cooling sea breezes, shingle soils and delicate winemaking underlie the elegance and purity we strive for in this Chardonnay. It is a Chardonnay that is truly balanced and well- structured with intense fruity flavour and concentration.
A crisp Chardonnay with green apple and citrus characters. The majority of grapes are from our coastal Te Awanga vineyard. It has mineral and subtle oak aromas. AWARDS AND ACCOLADES 94 points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 5 stars, 94 points - Cameron Douglas MS
Exceptional fruit purity, concentration and complexity are the hallmarks of Elephant Hill Reserve Chardonnay. "Tangy Chardonnay with green apple, citrus, lime, toast, bran biscuit and spicy oak flavours. Moderately rich but a little green with assertive acidity." - Bob Campbell MW AWARDS AND ACCOLADES 95 points - Bob Campbell MW 95 points - Sam Kim Wine Orbit. This rich, tightly structured wine was estate-grown at Te Awanga (principally) and in the Bridge Pa Triangle, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for a year in French oak barrels (26 per cent new). Bright, light lemon/green, it is full-bodied, with concentrated, ripe...

Gold Medal, Six Nations Wine Challenge. 97/100 Cameron Douglas MS "Immediately complex with a Meursault-like bouquet of cashew spice, cold smoke, grapefruit peel, apple and peach. A complex and lengthy wine on the palate with flavours that mirror the nose. Satin texture with a light creamy butter note and a bite of new oak. Primed for cellaring with drinking from 2021/22 and through to 2030. An excellent wine." Drink 2020 - 2030 96/100 Wine...
91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski "Classic notes of toasted hazelnuts and white peach mark the nose of the 2015 Chardonnay. It's medium-bodied, with a plump, succulent mouthfeel and a silky texture that supports flavors of white peach, pineapple and citrus. The finish does a slow, elegant fade, adding to this wine's considerable appeal. Drink 2018-2022"
95 Points - Bob Campbell Rich, appealing, creamy-textured chardonnay with layers of white peach, lanolin, ginger, brioche and subtle spicy flavours. A seamless, integrated wine that defines subtle power. So approachable now it's hard to imaging it getting any better, but that's an exciting possibility. @GREYSTONE
WINERY NOTES: Chardonnay is a variety that allows you more freedom to make wines in a style that you like more than any other. Ours you will get a more delicate subtle version, moreish and complex. Grapes from our Morrison Vineyard were whole bunch pressed directly to barrel, fermented naturally using the vineyard yeasts, all in older French oak. A wine with delicate fruit flavours, some savoury complexity, nuttiness & vanilla, with a soft palate of pith like mineral texture, all underpinned by fine acidity. Matured for just under a year on lees prior to hand bottling without filtration. Certified organic, Morrison vineyard, Pisa.
