This Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend shows vibrant, fresh fruit characters and a zesty, crisp palate. Ready to drink right now. Tim Kirk, Owner/Winemaker
Where does Fifth Leg come from? Fifth Leg was born from the Devil's Lair cave - a famous archaeological site not far from the Devil's Lair winery - where fossilised remains of a Tasmanian tiger were found, together with a mysterious extra leg. The 2015 Fifth Leg Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing wine with lovely texture and balance. It's full of zesty, vivacious fruit with tropical notes of lychee and passionfruit.
Jefferey Grosset's Rieslings are amongst the most sought after in Australia. Not only renowned for riesling, this SSB is also testament to his viticulure and winemaking. This is the 23rd release og this wine and there is very little of this beauty produced. The 2016 continues a run of outstanding vintages for the wine. There are white floral aroma's with some fresh herbal overtones, an intense, tight core of pure nectarine and white peach flavours giving a mid-palate tang, before a zesty long finish. A blend of 75% Clare Valley semillon and 25% Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc. Bright, light yellow hue, and a crisply grassy and lemon pithy...
94 points - Peter Chapman, News Corp "This Victorian winery is continuing to grow in popularity and with wines such as this it’s easy to understand why. Pinot gris is becoming a popular drop for many and this is a classy one to savour." Smells of Fresh cut pears, snow peas shoots and lemon thyme Tastes of Lime flowers and miso. Crisp, bone dry and moreish with twangy lemon sorbet finish.
WINERY NOTES: Pinot Gris is everyone’s mate. This cheeky, citrus-driven French style white is refreshing, easy going and lingers just long enough. Not too fresh, not too oaky. The Goldilocks of the whites. Region: Yarra and King Valleys Alc/Vol: 13.5% Smells like: Fresh cut pears, snow peas shoots and lemon thyme Tastes like: Lime flowers and miso. Crisp, bone dry and moreish with twangy lemon sorbet finish Goes with: Beer battered whiting with chips and tartare, fresh oysters, goats cheese and chargrilled vegies. Sunshine, but also rain, hail and snow (basically anytime, all the time).
Winefront 93 points. Reflecting the mixed planting of old vines, a complex and intriguing aromatic mix of atypical muscat aromas with white peach and nectarine, honeydew, lemon sorbet and grapefruit pith. A firm palate of ruby grapefruit astringency combined with nervy acidity, homemade lemonade sweet and sour balance give a truly eclectic, unconventional white wine.
James Halliday 96 points. How can McWilliams deliver perfectly cellared, aged gems like this? This wine is drop dead delicious. Fresh and floral, not a hint of heaviness.
Jancis Robinson 16.5/20. "Pale greenish gold. Very direct, refreshing and somehow 'mineral' on the nose. Super juicy and succulent. Massive acidity and more than a hint of bone dry lime juice. Very racy and reverberant on the finish. Very youthful but jam packed with flavour despite its low alcohol. This should take on ever more layers."
Jancis Robinson Wine Reviews 17.5/20. "Deep lemon-gold. Smoky, almost TDN-laced, stony, toasty notes. Preserved lemon and lime. Plenty of development. Medium to medium-full bodied. Nutty, spicy, rich and full. Crisp backbone of acidity holds the long finish, with again some phenolics. "(TJ) Tim Jackson MW. #aged
Huon Hooke 96 points. Jancis Robinson Wine Reviews 17.5/20. "Mid-deep lemon-gold. Developing notes of nutty, waxy, preserved lemons. Rich and inviting. Rounded, toasty lemon and nuts. Certainly some richness of development. Long, with an old cream touch to the finish." (TJ) Tim Jackson MW #aged
Jeremy Silver 96 points. Jancis Robinson Wine Reviews 17.5/20. "Waxy, lanolin - so delicious and distinct. Super fruit clarity - lemon curd, cream. Just slightly feral and funky too, but that adds rather than detracts interest. Exemplary." Richard Hemming MW. Wine Advocate 95 points. "The 2009 Lovedale Semillon provides intense lime juice and lime leaf aromas with a muted undercurrent of lemongrass, chalk and orange blossom. Very crisp on the palate with nice nervy intensity though youthfully tight / closed. Minerally with a long citrusy finish. Drink 2012 to 2022." LPB Apr 2010. #aged
Gold Medal and Trophy, Hunter Valley Wine Show. Six Other Gold Medals James Halliday 97/100 "Still as fresh as a daisy, its freshness accentuated by a touch of CO2 spritz deliberately left in the wine; the result is an unusual conjunction of delicacy and intensity, the explanation lying in its purity. It is truly difficult to visualise the end point of a semillon such as this." Stelvin Drink to 2035 Campbell Mattison 95/100 "This was held back; the 2011 was released prior to it. Because it just needed a little more time. It smells of an old sea bed. Lemon curd, brine, seashells. It virtually begs for seafood, though of course it’s more...
Jancis Robinson Wine Reviews 17.5/20. "Mid-lemon gold. Toast and dust. Lots of maturity to waxed lemons. Medium bodied with racy, lively acidity but enough waxy, lanolin character to hold the acidity. Lots of weight, with a long, creamy finish and some phenolic grip too. Classy." (TJ) Tim Jackson MW. James Halliday 96 points. "96/100 - As if by alchemy, aged semillon slips into a waxy realm of toast, buttery brioche and lime marmalade without its acidity wavering. This certainly has freshness and plenty of years ahead of it." #aged
96 Points - Jane Faulkner - Halliday's Wine Companion As if by alchemy, with age semillon slips into a toasty, butter brioche, lime-marmalade and waxy realm without its acidity wavering. This certainly has freshness and plenty of years ahead of it, but that magical 5-years-before-release-date includes all the other complex stuff. 95 Points - Huon Hooke - The Real Review Medium yellow colour. Straw, hay and subtle lemon juice aromas; some nuttiness. The palate is delicate and intense, refined and tight, dry and long. It’s still remarkably youthful and has a long career ahead of it. The palate is pin-point precise and searingly intense....
James Halliday 92 points. Wine Notes Colour pale straw with green hues Aroma passionfruit, lychees + citrus fruits Palate tropical notes, crisp + fresh Cellar up to 4 years .
A terrificly vibrant and complex blend of three Rhone white varietals; Marsanne, Roussanne & Viognier. “Ravishing in all the textural and characterful complexity of whole bunch pressing, extended skin contact and partial new oak maturation, this is a blend that upholds the character of its three varieties with magnificent precision. To achieve all this with crunch, zest, vibrancy and persistence takes wizardry indeed. The result is one of the best warm climate white blends going.” - Tyson Stelzer 93 points. 2017 Vintage Tasting notes A layered & thought-provoking blend inspired by the whites of the Rhone Valley.
