Halliday Winemaker of the Year 2021. Andrew Caillard MW 95 points. Medium pale colour. Lovely waxy, apricot, tropical fruit with hints of butterscotch/ honeycomb. Minerally fresh palate with apricot, white peach, waxy crème brulée flavours, with fine chalky textures, attractive mid palate volume and fresh lemony acidity. A fascinating wine with the bass notes of barrel maturation, the treble of acidity and the tenor of the alluvial terroir. A multi vintage blend ( 1/3 each of 2018, 2019, & 2020) from 1941 (44%), 1975 (39%) and 1971 (17%) plantings. Wonderfully different. Drink now - soon 12.9% alc 95 points. 100% Semillon -...
This Pinot Gris is a genuine people pleaser. A zippy, citrus-driven French style that’s fresh, textural, harmonious and lingers just long enough. Not too heavy, not too light, it’s the Goldilocks of the whites. Region: King Valley & Yarra Valley Alc/Vol: 13.5% Smells like: Fresh cut pears, snow peas shoots and lemon thyme Tastes like: Lime flowers and miso. Crisp, bone dry and moreish with twangy lemon sorbet finish Goes with: Beer battered whiting with chips and tartare, fresh oysters, goats cheese and chargrilled vegies. Lofty goals and little pleasures.
Winefront 93 points. Reflecting the mixed planting of old vines, a complex and intriguing aromatic mix of atypical muscat aromas with white peach and nectarine, honeydew, lemon sorbet and grapefruit pith. A firm palate of ruby grapefruit astringency combined with nervy acidity, homemade lemonade sweet and sour balance give a truly eclectic, unconventional white wine.
Region: TUMBARUMBA. Harvested from grapes grown around 480 meters these cool-climate wines in the McW 480 Estate range are filled with freshness and vibrancy. Enjoy vibrant flavours from great heights. The McW 480 Pinot Grigio is floral and aromatic with lifted spice and delicate rose petal aromas. A light to medium bodied wine with spicy nashi pear and crisp gala apple flavours. The palate is aromatic, crisp and long with a lingering spiciness and clean refreshing finish.
"Manages to handle its alcohol with relative ease, a tribute to the oldest Lovedale vines. Lemongrass, pear and citrus easily take care of the acidity and the alcohol. It's balance guarantees future gold medals and other plaudits." Wine Companion The late Maurice O'Shea planted the Lovedale vineyard in 1946 with incredible foresight, recognising that the unique structure of the land and the surrounding environment would deliver the tightness and acidity for world-class Semillon. This wine provides exceptional drinking now or can be carefully cellared up to fifteen years or more from vintage. Beautifully balanced palate with...
James Halliday 97 points, Top 20 whites of 2023. Bright, but deep, straw-green; from Block LO-07. The wine immediately presses the pleasure button. While it will continue to develop for years, the balance of youthful freshness and the honeyed toast is impeccable now. The price is totally justified. 97 points | $90 | Screwcap | 11% alc. | Drink to 2032 | The late Maurice O'Shea planted the Lovedale vineyard in 1946 with incredible foresight, recognising that the unique structure of the land and the surrounding environment would deliver the tightness and acidity for world-class Semillon. Region: Hunter Valley, NSW Winemaker: Adrian Sparks Growing Conditions A beautiful growing season, with dry weather during winter followed by gentle spring rains rejuvenating the vineyards. Healthy vines with a perfect balance between canopy and crop and an abundance of water made one of the hottest years on record easy to manage with grapes harvested at normal to later times than in previous years. Great flavours and wonderful acidities a feature of 2019. Colour Pale Straw. Aroma Hints of citrus, pear, and white peach are harmoniously integrated with spice, milk bottle and guava. . Palate An intense, textural palate of ripe...
Sourced exclusively from the Lovedale vineyard, Elizabeth has been quintessential Hunter Valley Semillon since the early days. No frills in the vinification: cool fermented for 14 days in stainless-steel tanks with cultivated yeast. Spent two months on lees before clarification and bottling. The fruit profile is the expected lime/lemon flavours, not so much the slinky acidity which makes it very much a now or later proposition – an outright bargain. 95 points. James Halliday Published 14 February 2023. This wine was formerly bottled under the "Elizabeth" label. That is now used for cellar aged...
WINERY NOTE: What started as a mishap has become our signature style. Years ago, our Pinot Gris spent some unplanned time on skins, resulting in a beautiful colour, and a richer texture. We still follow this technique (with a little more precision!) today, making our iconic blush Pinot Gris. A sure favourite, this wine suits all palates and is great with or without food. WINE NOTES Colour: pale salmon tinge naturally derived from Pinot Gris skins Aroma: red and yellow apple, nashi pear, orange blossom Palate: lemon and orange citrus, red apple, white florals
The Turkey Flat vineyards and winery are now situated on the historic Section One property in the centre of the Barossa. The Schulz family became owners of the Turkey Flat property in around 1865 and while they continued to tend the ancient vineyard, they also developed a thriving butchers business. The Turkey Flat Barossa Valley White blend is sourced from the Bethany and Stonewell regions of the Barossa. This wine is an even split of Marsanne and Roussanne. Picked early to hold freshness and preserve acidity, both varieties were whole bunch pressed to new and second use French Puncheons. Fermentation was completed on full solids to promote...
“ A balance of bright tropical fruits and savoury depth, this wine is styled on fun white wines of the Mediterranean. Made in an aperitif style and to be enjoyed with food and friends.” – Alan Varney, Winemaker. 210 dozen made. THE VINEYARD Sourced from Oliver’s Taranga and Lopresti Vineyards, McLaren Vale. Picked early to retain natural acidity. This variety has been showing great promise in McLaren Vale for the past decade and the chance to source fruit from two of the top Vale vineyards simply could not be passed up. WINEMAKING Picked early in the season to retain a focused acid structure in...
“This is a textural yet vibrant wine with touches of citrus and a hint of crushed basil. An alluring chalkiness on the palate stands up nicely to the tight acid line. Matches beautifully with seafood and cuts through richer pork based dishes. This wine drinks well after some months of bottle maturation and will continue to develop gracefully with medium to long term cellaring of 2-3 years.”- Alan Varney, Winemaker. 80 dozen made. Fruit sourced from Langhorne Creek, Bremerton Vineyard. Picked cool with 48 hours skin contact time prior to pressing. Juice hyper-oxidised then cool fermented in seasoned Burgundy...
