Australian Wine Companion 92 points. Hand picked on a biodynamic flower day, hand sorted and pressed to tank for wild ferment. Crushed sesame, kelp, white currant and red apple skins on both the nose and palate. As usual, Cullen wines don't seem to fit in any 'boxes', part of the reason why they are so great. Erin Larkin. Halliday Winemaker of the Year 2021. Andrew Caillard MW 95 points. Medium pale colour. Lovely waxy, apricot, tropical fruit with hints of butterscotch/ honeycomb. Minerally fresh palate with apricot, white peach, waxy crème brulée flavours, with fine chalky textures, attractive mid palate volume and fresh lemony acidity. A fascinating wine with the bass notes of barrel maturation, the treble of acidity and the tenor of the alluvial terroir. A multi vintage blend ( 1/3 each of 2018, 2019, & 2020) from 1941 (44%), 1975 (39%) and 1971 (17%) plantings. Wonderfully different. Drink now - soon 12.9% alc 95 points. 100% Semillon - Magnolia...
WINERY NOTES: Pinot Gris is everyone’s mate. This cheeky, citrus-driven French style white is refreshing, easy going and lingers just long enough. Not too fresh, not too oaky. The Goldilocks of the whites. Region: Yarra and King Valleys Alc/Vol: 13.5% Smells like: Fresh cut pears, snow peas shoots and lemon thyme Tastes like: Lime flowers and miso. Crisp, bone dry and moreish with twangy lemon sorbet finish Goes with: Beer battered whiting with chips and tartare, fresh oysters, goats cheese and chargrilled vegies. Sunshine, but also rain, hail and snow (basically anytime, all the time).
Winefront 93 points. Reflecting the mixed planting of old vines, a complex and intriguing aromatic mix of atypical muscat aromas with white peach and nectarine, honeydew, lemon sorbet and grapefruit pith. A firm palate of ruby grapefruit astringency combined with nervy acidity, homemade lemonade sweet and sour balance give a truly eclectic, unconventional white wine.
Region: TUMBARUMBA. Harvested from grapes grown around 480 meters these cool-climate wines in the McW 480 Estate range are filled with freshness and vibrancy. Enjoy vibrant flavours from great heights. The McW 480 Pinot Grigio is floral and aromatic with lifted spice and delicate rose petal aromas. A light to medium bodied wine with spicy nashi pear and crisp gala apple flavours. The palate is aromatic, crisp and long with a lingering spiciness and clean refreshing finish.
"Manages to handle its alcohol with relative ease, a tribute to the oldest Lovedale vines. Lemongrass, pear and citrus easily take care of the acidity and the alcohol. It's balance guarantees future gold medals and other plaudits." Wine Companion The late Maurice O'Shea planted the Lovedale vineyard in 1946 with incredible foresight, recognising that the unique structure of the land and the surrounding environment would deliver the tightness and acidity for world-class Semillon. This wine provides exceptional drinking now or can be carefully cellared up to fifteen years or more from vintage. Beautifully balanced palate with perfect acidity...
Inspired by the first visit of a reigning monarch to Australia in 1954, this wine is the embodiment of the synergy achieved by combining the noble grape varietal Semillon and the Hunter Valley. Renowned for its unique ability to be enjoyed when fresh and admired when allowed to age gracefully. Mount Pleasant celebrates both styles through 'Elizabeth'. Region Hunter Valley, NSW Winemaker Adrian Sparks Colour Bright green hues Aroma Classic citrus characters of lime & lemongrass predominate with wonderful intensity and purity. Palate An elegant yet intense palate of pure Semillon fruit providing great line and length. Vinification/Maturation A...
Crushed and left to sit overnight in press to extract colour and flavour, aromatic cultured yeast, fermented in tank. A definite salmon blush clearly shows Rob Dolan is on the side of allowing gris to show its natural colour. On the fuller, luscious side with Turkish delight, rose petals, nashi pear, spice. Complex and full of flavour on the palate, soft acid, phenolics adding grip. It's got the lot.93 points. Jeni Port Published 01 August 2020
WINERY NOTE: What started as a mishap has become our signature style. Years ago, our Pinot Gris spent some unplanned time on skins, resulting in a beautiful colour, and a richer texture. We still follow this technique (with a little more precision!) today, making our iconic blush Pinot Gris. A sure favourite, this wine suits all palates and is great with or without food. WINE NOTES Colour: pale salmon tinge naturally derived from Pinot Gris skins Aroma: red and yellow apple, nashi pear, orange blossom Palate: lemon and orange citrus, red apple, white florals Cellar: up to 3 years.
The Turkey Flat vineyards and winery are now situated on the historic Section One property in the centre of the Barossa. The Schulz family became owners of the Turkey Flat property in around 1865 and while they continued to tend the ancient vineyard, they also developed a thriving butchers business. The Turkey Flat Barossa Valley White blend is sourced from the Bethany and Stonewell regions of the Barossa. This wine is an even split of Marsanne and Roussanne. Picked early to hold freshness and preserve acidity, both varieties were whole bunch pressed to new and second use French Puncheons. Fermentation was completed on full solids to promote...
