Bob Campbell MW 95 points. Best Buy under $30, Gourmet Traveller. Top Minor Varietal White, Taste Magazine. A wine of wonderful, pure aromatics this Gruner exemplifies classic notes of mandarin and ripe peach with an underlying trace of white pepper. The oak featuring in the wine is only obvious if you are told about it – it is there to provide richness and weight to the mid-palate, which is why we chose large French oak puncheons to do the job. A model vintage in Marlborough provided warm sunny days and cool nights which enabled all-important retention of acidity and ripeness of fruit. The result is a well-structured, luscious rendition...
Something very special is happening at this gloriously picturesque winery, especially with regard to its pinot gris. The 2016 vintage was proclaimed by Winestate magazine as the best in NZ. The 2017 was declared the country's best and awarded 95 points by Bob Campbell MW. The 2018 has just been released and as yet is unrated. We think it is a beauty and will continue the legacy. wine description: An inviting bouquet of fresh figs and pears with hints of spice and nutty aromas. The palate has rich broad fruit held together by a seam of zest that delivers a dry and complex finish winemakers comments: Our Pinot Gris is made from fruit grown on...
Comments by winemaker, Wilco Lam: The 2016 Dry River Pinot Gris is initially a bit shy, which is to be expected of a young wine, but progressively the complexities start to become evident. Kiwi fruit, rock melon and white flesh stone-fruit are the obvious fruit aromas. We gladly welcome the stewed rhubarb character I often saw in our past Pinot gris. Bay leaf, ground galangal, and other Indian spices like cardamom and caraway seed add further interest. Candle nuts and vanilla pod bring a grounding effect and entice to finally start tasting! The wine appears drier than previous releases, the residual sugar is approximately 20 g/l, which might...
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 93 points. This Pinot Gris has aromas of pear and sweet white peach with a little hint of honeysuckle. It is fragrant and full-bodied, with great intensity of fruit and threaded with fresh acidity and la ingering finish.
REVIEWS & ACCOLADES Fine Wines of New Zealand Selection 2019 Top 100 New Releases - Gourmet Traveller WINE Champion Pinot Gris - 2019 NZ Organic Wine Awards 94 Points - Bob Campbell MW The aroma reminds me of freshly-baked apple pie with a seasoning of cloves. Weighty pinot gris with an initial hint of sweetness that is perfectly balanced by fruity acidity and fine, peppery tannins. A classy wine that is good now but no rush. 94 Points - Sam Kim (Wine Orbit) This is seriously good. Opulent and stylish, the wine shows golden peach, poached pear, spice and rich floral aromas on the nose, leading to a succulent palate that is wonderfully...
Notes from Duncan: This Gruner Veltliner is medium weight in a dry style. Floral, white pepper, and pip-fruit aromas on the nose , similar fruit flavours including spice and pears come through on the palate, all underpinned by mineral characters and refreshing acidity. We aim to produce wines of purity, precision and balance with a clear resonance of flavour. The wine is drinking extremely well now but can be cellared with confidence for two to four years. A fruit driven style of Gruner Veltliner with a luscious texture. This Gruner Veltliner is organically produced, Bio Gro Certified, and is made from a Single Estate Vineyard, Morrison...
WINERY NOTES: Pinot Gris but not as you know it, This is all about savoury goodness. Hand harvested in April at around 8 tonnes per hectare. The grapes were whole bunch pressed, fermented at cool temperatures using a mixture of wild yeasts before 6 months on lees. Pear, spice and citrus aromas are followed by flavours of stonefruit with a delicate creamy like texture, all underpinned by savoury, mineral notes and refreshing acidity. This wine is dry, a delicate style of Pinot Gris that is all about enjoyment, drinking now or at lunch or as an aperitif or whenever …. get some. Certified organic – Pagan Vineyard, Gibbston.
WINERY NOTES: Our Pinot Gris features ripe peach, nectarine and Nashi pear aromas, heralding a vibrantly fruity, luscious palate. This combined with a very long, zesty finish complements rich or light seafood meals or most Asian-spiced cuisine, though its extraordinary versatility should be experienced over a wide range of dishes. This wine is drinking very well now and is expected to mellow over the next 3-4 years.
A gorgeous pinot gris… the fragrant and complex bouquet shows baked pear, mango, orange peel and spice characters, leading to a succulent palate that is concentrated and richly textured. This hugely appealing wine is elegantly opulent and very delicious. 5 Stars - Wine Orbit NZ 5 Stars - Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
Raymond Chan Wine Reviews 18.5/20. Full, even, light golden-yellow colour, a little paler edged. The nose is softly full and voluminous with aromas of yellow stonefruits entwined with a complex layering of nutty lees and mineral notes. The aromatics show good depth and intensity. Medium-dryish to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has rich flavours of yellow stonefruits melded with nuances of exotic florals and honeysuckle, unveiling a layer of nutty and flinty lees and complex mineral elements. The palate has an understated unctuousness balanced by acid and alcohol cut, and the wine flows along a smooth line, leading to a sustained...
Zingy aromas of Nashi pear, grapefruit zest and cherry blossom on the nose lead to a long and vibrant palate of crunchy Williams pear, fresh lime and baked apple which is complemented by a creamy mouth filling texture and mineral finish. #wildearth
