Bob Campbell MW 95 points. Best Buy under $30, Gourmet Traveller. Top Minor Varietal White, Taste Magazine. A wine of wonderful, pure aromatics this Gruner exemplifies classic notes of mandarin and ripe peach with an underlying trace of white pepper. The oak featuring in the wine is only obvious if you are told about it – it is there to provide richness and weight to the mid-palate, which is why we chose large French oak puncheons to do the job. A model vintage in Marlborough provided warm sunny days and cool nights which enabled all-important retention of acidity and ripeness of fruit. The result is a well-structured, luscious rendition...
Comments by winemaker, Wilco Lam: The 2016 Dry River Pinot Gris is initially a bit shy, which is to be expected of a young wine, but progressively the complexities start to become evident. Kiwi fruit, rock melon and white flesh stone-fruit are the obvious fruit aromas. We gladly welcome the stewed rhubarb character I often saw in our past Pinot gris. Bay leaf, ground galangal, and other Indian spices like cardamom and caraway seed add further interest. Candle nuts and vanilla pod bring a grounding effect and entice to finally start tasting! The wine appears drier than previous releases, the residual sugar is approximately 20 g/l, which might...
Raymond Chan 18.5+/20, Sam Kim Wine Orbit 93 points. Winery Notes: It is an aromatic white blend showing stone fruit characters and honeysuckle on the nose with baked golden apple on the palate. The 2016 Le Phant Blanc is a blend of 65 % Viognier, 27% Pinot Gris and 8% Gewurztraminer. All the fruit are from our Te Awanga Vineyard. A small portion is barrel fermented to add density to the middle palate.
Light golden in colour with a nose of fresh stone fruits, wild fennel and hints of cream. The palate flows with fine-grained phenolics, integrated fruit-laden acidity and an abundance of Nashi pear and white peach flavours. REVIEWS & ACCOLADES 5 stars - Raymond Chan Bright, even straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues. The nose is softly rich and concentrated with well-packed aromas of white and yellow stonefruits along with honied notes and yellow florals, and a suggestion of spice. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has soft, rich flavours of white and yellow stonefruits and subtle notes of honey and exotic florals. The...
Notes from Duncan: This Gruner Veltliner is medium weight in a dry style. Floral, white pepper, and pip-fruit aromas on the nose , similar fruit flavours including spice and pears come through on the palate, all underpinned by mineral characters and refreshing acidity. We aim to produce wines of purity, precision and balance with a clear resonance of flavour. The wine is drinking extremely well now but can be cellared with confidence for two to four years. A fruit driven style of Gruner Veltliner with a luscious texture. This Gruner Veltliner is organically produced, Bio Gro Certified, and is made from a Single Estate Vineyard, Morrison...
WINERY NOTES: Our Pinot Gris features ripe peach, nectarine and Nashi pear aromas, heralding a vibrantly fruity, luscious palate. This combined with a very long, zesty finish complements rich or light seafood meals or most Asian-spiced cuisine, though its extraordinary versatility should be experienced over a wide range of dishes. This wine is drinking very well now and is expected to mellow over the next 3-4 years.
A gorgeous pinot gris… the fragrant and complex bouquet shows baked pear, mango, orange peel and spice characters, leading to a succulent palate that is concentrated and richly textured. This hugely appealing wine is elegantly opulent and very delicious. 5 Stars - Wine Orbit NZ 5 Stars - Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
Raymond Chan Wine Reviews 18.5/20. Full, even, light golden-yellow colour, a little paler edged. The nose is softly full and voluminous with aromas of yellow stonefruits entwined with a complex layering of nutty lees and mineral notes. The aromatics show good depth and intensity. Medium-dryish to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has rich flavours of yellow stonefruits melded with nuances of exotic florals and honeysuckle, unveiling a layer of nutty and flinty lees and complex mineral elements. The palate has an understated unctuousness balanced by acid and alcohol cut, and the wine flows along a smooth line, leading to a sustained...
Zingy aromas of Nashi pear, grapefruit zest and cherry blossom on the nose lead to a long and vibrant palate of crunchy Williams pear, fresh lime and baked apple which is complemented by a creamy mouth filling texture and mineral finish. #wildearth
