Bob Campbell MW 95 points. Best Buy under $30, Gourmet Traveller. Top Minor Varietal White, Taste Magazine. A wine of wonderful, pure aromatics this Gruner exemplifies classic notes of mandarin and ripe peach with an underlying trace of white pepper. The oak featuring in the wine is only obvious if you are told about it – it is there to provide richness and weight to the mid-palate, which is why we chose large French oak puncheons to do the job. A model vintage in Marlborough provided warm sunny days and cool nights which enabled all-important retention of acidity and ripeness of fruit. The result is a well-structured, luscious rendition...
Bob Campbell Ripe pinot gris with punchy tree fruit, pear, mango, honeysuckle and root ginger flavours. A smooth-textured wine, with a backbone of refreshing acidity that helps drive a lengthy finish. Dry but certainly not austere 30 JUN 2020 Drink - 2020–2023. WINERY NOTES: We believe that the elements of a good Pinot Gris are a perceived weight and texture on the palate. Made from 100% Estate Grown, BioGro certified organic, Central Otago Pinot Gris. The fruit was crushed, then pressed and fermented using wild yeast to foster complexity. It was fermented in a combination of old French oak barrels (36%) and stainless tank. The barrels...
Something very special is happening at this gloriously picturesque winery, especially with regard to its pinot gris. The 2016 vintage was proclaimed by Winestate magazine as the best in NZ. The 2017 was declared the country's best and awarded 95 points by Bob Campbell MW. The 2018 ended up not being rated due to Covid buggering everything and everyone. The 2019 has just been released and as yet is unrated. We think it is a beauty and will continue the legacy. wine description: An inviting bouquet of fresh figs and pears with hints of spice and nutty aromas. The palate has rich broad fruit held together by a seam of zest that delivers a dry...
Comments by winemaker, Wilco Lam: The 2016 Dry River Pinot Gris is initially a bit shy, which is to be expected of a young wine, but progressively the complexities start to become evident. Kiwi fruit, rock melon and white flesh stone-fruit are the obvious fruit aromas. We gladly welcome the stewed rhubarb character I often saw in our past Pinot gris. Bay leaf, ground galangal, and other Indian spices like cardamom and caraway seed add further interest. Candle nuts and vanilla pod bring a grounding effect and entice to finally start tasting! The wine appears drier than previous releases, the residual sugar is approximately 20 g/l, which might...
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 93 points. This Pinot Gris has aromas of pear and sweet white peach with a little hint of honeysuckle. It is fragrant and full-bodied, with great intensity of fruit and threaded with fresh acidity and la ingering finish.
Bob Campbell MW 93 points. Flavoursome pinot gris with a tint of straw colour suggesting extended skin contact, although the texture is reasonably silky. An attractive wine with pear, apple, clove and spice flavours. Made in an off-dry style. Michael Cooper says “At its best, this is one of the finest Pinot Gris in the country.”. Trophy, NZ Organic Wine Competition 2020.
93 Points - Bob Campbell MW. Flavoursome pinot gris with a tint of straw colour suggesting extended skin contact, although the texture is reasonably silky. An attractive wine with pear, apple, clove and spice flavours. Made in an off-dry style. WINERY NOTES: Pinot Gris but not as you know it, This is all about savoury goodness. Hand harvested in April at around 8 tonnes per hectare. The grapes were whole bunch pressed, fermented at cool temperatures using a mixture of wild yeasts before 6 months on lees. Pear, spice and citrus aromas are followed by flavours of stonefruit with a delicate creamy like texture, all underpinned by savoury,...
Our Pinot Gris features ripe peach, nectarine and Nashi pear aromas, heralding a vibrantly fruity off-dry palate. This combined with a very long, zesty finish complements rich or light seafood meals or most Asian-spiced cuisine, though its extraordinary versatility should be experienced over a wide range of dishes. This wine is drinking very well now and is expected to mellow over the next 3-4 years.
Zingy aromas of Nashi pear, grapefruit zest and cherry blossom on the nose lead to a long and vibrant palate of crunchy Williams pear, fresh lime and baked apple which is complemented by a creamy mouth filling texture and mineral finish. #wildearth
