LANDING TUESDAY 3 DECEMBER Hands down the leader of the pack. Crackling and nervy. A dramaticlly constructed wine that is supremely good. It was hard to think of a better rendition from these guys. A new benchmark for Giant Steps. Supplies will be gone by Xmas. Top Gold + Trophy, National Wine Show 98 points, James Halliday 95 points, James Suckling Love the aromas of tea, strawberries, cherries and freshly cut flowers, which follow through to a medium to full body. Tight and silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Shows focus and finesse with structure. Drink now or hold. JS.
LANDS TUESDAY 3 DECEMBER In Halliday's Top Ten for Ten Years in a Row... Classic Gary Farr in every way. Every aspect of the wine is comforting and nostalgic. It is looking great already and will get even better over the next 12 months and beyond. James Halliday 96 Halliday Top Ten for Ten Years in a Row,,,, Nick and Gary Farr stand side by side, but aren’t afraid to go head-to-head when their opinions differ. Each generation has developed a distinctive winemaking style based on his individual experience and taste, and their respective lines—By Farr by Gary, and Farr Rising by Nick—have received critical acclaim both in Australia and...
These vines have quietly come of age and will not look back. Savory and glossy. If this came out of Central Otago it would cost $80+. The clever buy of the day from a value perspective. 96 points - Bob Campbell MW. Fragrant, aromatic pinot noir with seductive floral, cherry and subtle spicy flavours. Delicately succulent wine that has clearly been made with a light touch but has impressive power and a lengthy finish. This wine has the X-factor - every sip is even better than the last.
Amazing quality fruit for this price point. It beats the pack under $50 for this vintage with style and grace. I suspect a bumper harvest meant that its bomb-diggity sibling at twice the price saw a bit of declassification of extrodinarilly good fruit... Decanter Magazine "Crimson is supposedly the wine to introduce you to its bigger Ata Rangi estate Pinot. But perversely, you need all of the Pinot knowledge in the world to understand just how special Crimson is." Julia Harding ~ Master of Wine "....This seems very Martinborough to me - refined and savoury character to the dark-red fruits.....Young vines, shorter vatting time and less oak....
Probably the most famous of the Farr dynasty wines. Close planted vines and carefully selected Burgundy clones echo the foothills of Vosne more accurately than almost anything else out of Australia. Tout Pres was planted in 2001 and is a very special and intriguing site. It rises above the other vineyards, and each of the three slopes consists of a different soil type. The largest slope is black volcanic soil over limestone; the second is quartz gravel mixed with red ironstone; the third is an iron strand in grey sandy loam. The clones, which will acclimatise and mutate over time to become the ‘Tout Pres clone’, are 113, 114, 115, 667,...
A crowd favorite for the sippers. Pure, feminine and poised. The clarity of purpose and flavor is a trademark of this wine and this vintage is no exception. Bob Campbell MW 94 points. Aromatic pinot noir with floral, violet, dark cherry, plum and spice flavours. A silken-textured wine that is so appealing and accessible now that it's hard to imagine it getting much better with bottle age Drink by: 2018 - 2022. BC. Landing Tuesday 3 Dec
A year ago this humble label would never have stolen so many hearts as it did this weekend. An extra year or two has allowed this wine to become stately, poised and elevated. One cant argue the value given it was priced at 2017 prices.... Neudorf 'Tom's Block' Pinot Noir 2014. "Quite a complex bouquet of red berry fruits laced with a silty mineral almost stony mineral layer; almost sweet new oak layer with a layer of spice and intensity; overall a complete and generous Pinot Noir bouquet. On the palate - crisp, youthful, fruity, firm and dry; flavours of ripe cherry and cranberry with layers of oak spice, medium tannins and plenty of...
Normally one has to hock a kidney to buy Bindi - -but this entry level label makes it almost a Tuesday night night impulse choice. Styling with the very best of the blue-bloods, this wine is majestic, glowing and glorious. Wine Front 95 points. The classic Bindi Pinot signature of perfume and red fruits is immediately evident here. There are also some darker fruit notes and spice aromas giving added complexity. The balance of roses, red and dark cherry, raspberry youthfulness with more earthy and savoury complexities is very pleasing at this early stage. The palate is fleshy, supple and silky with fine tannins and balanced acidity carrying...
Score: 95 Bob Campbell MW, bobcampbell.nz, November 2016 Beautifully aromatic with floral cherry fruit and real finesse, as well as sweet raspberry jam notes. Supple and pretty with sweet fruit to the fore. Fresh cherries and raspberries. Very pure. Score: 94 Jamie Goode, Wineanorak.com, February 2017 The 2015 Pinot Noir comes from a year that saw reduced crop yields and a dry summer. The result is a concentrated, tannic, age-worthy wine that was aged in 20%-25% new French oak hogsheads. It's medium to full-bodied and velvety in texture, with black cherry notes that come dangerously close to being chocolaty, but it retains a sense of...
Huon Hooke 92/100 Mike Bennie , Wine Front 93/100 The vineyard is tucked into a corner of the Pisa District, Central Otago, close to the Wanaka/Cromwell Highway SH6. Situated on river and glacial terraces, sheltered to some extent from the worst of the cold south winds by ‘Sugarloaf’, a local landmark feature which marks the physical end of a previous glacial advance. The dominant Pisa Range to the west reaches 1964 metres. These mountains create a rain shadow effect, meaning that the annual rainfall received on our vineyards of around 400mm per annum is approximately one third less than is received the other side of the range in the...
Ray Jordan 94 points. Huon Hooke 94 points. Campbell Mattinson 94 points. Wine Spectator 94 points. “Elegant and distinctive, offering fresh raspberry, sage and white pepper notes that are precise, supple and juicy, with a thread of fresh loam and forest floor, supported by polished tannins. A touch of matcha green tea lingers on the finish. Drink now through 2033.” Wine Spectator. 94 points. If you're looking for a quality pinot noir to drink right now then look no further. This is all about fragrance, juiciness, fruit and flow, a myriad of spice-riddled flavours running wild and free through the palate. It puts a smile on your face;...
