WINERY NOTE: The 2020 Dixon spent 10 months in barrel and was bottled in mid February. This wine is a composition of sections of the original 1988 planting and the 2001 Kaye vineyard. It has a lifted nose of roses, red cherries, strawberries, rhubarb and spice. The palate is fresh, supple, smooth, builds in texture and has good length. As always, it will be more complex and fuller in three plus years. The Bindi Dixon Pinot Noir is based upon declassified grapes from the Original Vineyard planted in 1988 and grapes from the new Block K, planted in 2001. The ideal of this wine is to produce a delicious, perfumed, spicy harmonious, textured...
Wine Advocate 93 points. This wine is new to my annual tasting repertoire and represents an exciting new discovery from Cantina Tramin. The 2018 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Maglen opens to a mid-weight approach and a nice sense of concentration that remains impactful but elegant at the same time. The wine is redolent of cherry, cassis, pressed violets and blood orange. There are some distant notes of earth and smoke with crushed rock as well. This release of 12,000 bottles is a terrific performance from a first-rate winery.ML Sept 2021. Decanter 92 points. James Suckling 92 points. "Pronounced licorice, black-pepper and smoky aromas, as...
Gold Medal, Selection Mondiale, Canada, 2020. Silver Medal, Mundus Vini 2022. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, and harvested in October. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for ten days and later aged in French oak barrels for 9 months. One of the few Pinot Noir 's grown in Spain from “El Cerezo” vineyard that is 30 years old. Tasting Notes Deep black cherry in color with aromas of plum and black currants, the Castillo de Monjardin Pinot Noir has delicate flavors of matured black fruits. Silky, with a long, refined finish. On the palate is very elegant, well balanced with flavors of red berries. Aged for 9 months in oak barriques...
Tim Atkin MW 93 points. Broader and more textured than its Sandstone partner, this is a little more compact and brooding in its youth, but will reward cellaring. Spicy, savoury and well balanced, it unfurls flavours of black cherry, earth and redcurrant in the glass, supported by fine-grained tannins. 2021-27. TASTING NOTES: Layered and textured truffle savouriness and earthy forest floor interwoven with concentrated black cherry compote, harmoniously supported by mineral textured tannins. PHILOSOPHY: The focus is on purity, vibrancy, restraint, and harmonious balance by the careful selection and blending of specific clones grown on clay...
Total production 175 cases. Bob Campbell MW 94 points. From a high limestone site near the township of Waiau. Wild vineyard fermented. Reasonably pale pinot noir but not lacking power. Bright, vibrant cherry, violet, red rose and anise flavours. Lovely purity and a powdery texture. (Screwcap). WINEMAKER NOTES: This is my seventh release of Forager Pinot Noir. 2018 was a very warm season…Good flowering conditions and sustained warmth lead to plentiful bunches. Crop levels were reduced through manual thinning to around 6.5 T/Ha. Hand-picked and hand-sorted, the grapes are then returned to sit amongst the vines where they once grew. Giving...
James Halliday Wine Companion, 96 points. 60/40% upper/lower Yarra Valley fruit. Hand picked and open-fermented with 60% whole berries, the remainder whole bunches. A very bright, light–medium crimson red. A gentle waft of fresh raspberries and cranberries, with just the right amount of spice-rack spices. Delicious right out of the gate, this medium-bodied and refreshing wine will age well too. The perfect introduction to modern Yarra pinot. Philip Rich Published 29 December 2021. Wine Spectator 92 points. Vibrant, expressive and spicy, with fresh raspberry, cherry and pomegranate flavors, and notes of toasted cumin, cardamom, sage and...
ACCOLADES 95 Points - Cameron Douglas MS 95 Points - Sam Kim Wineorbit.com 5 Stars - Raymond Chan Wine Reviews 93 Points Bob Campbell MW. WINERY NOTE: A Pinot Noir with generous richness & flavor concentration. Layers of ripe fruit, floral and spice with a gentle tannin line. Unfined and bottled on site. The first week of November and the month of December were very hot and dry - perfect conditions for flowering. The vines produced a solid crop with large bunches. Careful leaf plucking to open the canopy and significant bunch thinning was required to ensure quality targets were met. Rain in January and February gave the soils a top up and...
Tasting Notes Intense, vivid translucent youthful purple-ruby appearance. The wine shows pronounced lifted perfume on the nose with red berry fruit, musk, wild mushrooms and hints of savoury richness and spice and a clean vibrant minerality. On the palate there are very pure Pinot fruit flavours on entry with red cherry and musk flavours coupled with fresh acidity. The wine has layered complexity with great elegance and finesse. Very fine lacy, almost powdery tannin on the finish. In The Vineyard Selected from 3 clones of Pinot Noir with an average age of 21 years old, situated on loamy gravel topsoil with clay sub-soil.The vineyards are...
Top 3 South Island Pinots....Gourmet Traveller. Wine Advocate 91 points. Made using a significant whole-cluster component (more than 25%), Mount Edward's 2018 Pinot Noir boasts some notable herbal, floral and tea-like aromatics layered over cranberry and cherry fruit. Medium-bodied, silky-textured yet marked by relatively taut acidity, it's more streamlined than expansive, with room to grow and expand a bit in the coming years. The tannins impart a touch of astringency to the lingering finish, so pair it with rare beef or lamb if serving it now, or just cellar it for a couple of years. It should still be singing in a decade. JC Jun 2021....
Wine Advocate 90 points. The 2017 La Pineta shows a dark and almost spicy side of this fragile Burgundian grape. The combined heat and dry conditions of this vintage have together shaped a concentrated and rich Pinot Nero. I thought the 2016 vintage was too ripe, but ironically that was a cooler vintage than 2017 was. This hot vintage expression, on the other hand, shows careful harmony and deft management when it comes to that dark fruit concentration. Dark cherry and cassis are followed by nicely integrated acidity. Cue it up with a Peking duck. Only 6,000 bottles were made. ML Sept 2019. La Pineta (100% Pinot Nero) is created with the...
