“Even though the name Albert Morot is practically synonymous with Beaune, his largest plot is in Savigny. This terroir, converted to red wine production after the Second World War, has a true white wine profile. The wine finds an almost tannic power there, a beautiful structure for pairing with food. It is expressive, with just the right amount of body, but its complexity allows it to develop a tautness: a truly great Premier Cru.”

— Pierre-Jean Villa

Having belonged to a certain Mr. Bataille, this vineyard is adjacent to the old road from Beaune to Vergy, which explains the name Vergelesses (or Vergelosses in the year 830).

Clos de la Bataillère was already highly regarded in the 19th century. In 1855, Jules Lavalle, naturalist, botanist, and pioneer of the classification of Burgundy's climats, noted that La Bataillère was among the most highly regarded climats, described as a "top-of-the-range" vineyard.

At 1.87 hectares, the estate's largest plot benefits from an ideal south/southeast exposure.

Primarily planted with Chardonnay on 1.30 hectares, it also retains, on the northern part of the vineyard, 0.5 hectares of old Pinot Noir vines, a testament to the historical heritage of this unique site.

The soil is mainly composed of limestone and sand. This white wine is characterized by its balance and energy, its length and elegance. It will be perfect to accompany poultry in cream sauce or scallops with lemon butter.
