"This really concentrated Burgundian chardonnay has haunting aromas of hazelnuts and smoke. In spite of its strong personality, it is so silky and elegant on the medium-bodied palate. Very long and focused, stony finish. Drink or hold." - James Suckling.

Le Clos Saint-Jean, in Chassagne-Montrachet, takes its name from the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Jean le Grand d'Autun which once owned it.

Clos Saint Jean is one of the top 1er Crus in Chassagne-Montrachet, and is ranked by the Lavalle classification on par with Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts, Romanée St-Vivant, and even Echézeaux.

With only 3.47 hectares, it boasts a long history of monastic cultivation dating back to 589, and its production is extremely rare.

Located on a high slope, its mixed limestone and red soil terroir is considered the finest in the entire appellation.
