Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale 2022
Doctor Wine 97 points. Wine Advocate 94 points. The Chianti Classico cru, Reserve obtained from a single vineyard and which received the highest scores for its elegance and typical characteristics. A wine that showcases the enormous potential of the Sangioveto grape. Vibrant and lively ruby colour. The nose displays typical violet flowers and cherry fruit scents and a mineral note. Opens immediately to the palate with freshness and flavour dominating the middle part of the tasting, while the pleasant finish offers fragrant fruity notes.
Castellare di Castellina Coniale Cabernet 2020 [VM 95]
Vinous Media 95 points. "The 2020 Coniale is a jewel of a wine. It offers an intriguing mix of varietal and regional character. Darktoned fruit, sage, lavender, grilled herbs, mocha and spice fill out the layers nicely. This heady, explosive Cabernet Sauvignon has a ton to offer. The huge, expansive finish is a thing of beauty." Antonio Galloni. Pure Cabernet Sauvignon, putting Castellare’s productive capacities to the test with the rest of the world. Castellare di Castellina Coniale Cabernet 2021 [WA 96+]
Wine Advocate 96+. Pure Cabernet Sauvignon, putting Castellare’s productive capacities to the test with the rest of the world. Work carried out in the vineyard and a wine-making process focused more on elegance than power. A result which, apart from the strong note of a Cabernet, goes a long way to illustrate the characteristics of the terroir. Intense ruby red. This wine immediately conveys a hint of cherries and small fruits such as currants. The overall bouquet is complemented by subtle woody notes. The palate is well balanced and persistent.
Castellare di Castellina I Sodi di San Niccolo 2019 [LG 98]
98 Points, Luca Gardini, Gardini Notes: "An iconic wine by Castellare di Castellina winery, a blend of Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera grapes grown organically. It ages in barrique for 24-30 months. The result is a wine with deep ruby color, fruity aromas of red plum jam, blueberries and touches of marjoram. The palate is dense, marked by a nice acid vein that supports the fruit, with compact and elegant tannins. Balsamic finish with red fruits returns." 02/23. Decanter 96 points. #CAST

Antonio Galloni 97+ Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2020 I Sodi di San Niccolò is fabulous. It is a rare wine that offers power, finesse and translucent energy at once. All the elements are in perfect balance. I can’t remember a Sodi like this one, a wine that is so complete and alluring right out of the gate. Rose petal, lavender, spice, orange peel and sage open first. What impresses me most about the 2020 is the finesse of its tannin, something I have very rarely seen in Sodi at this early stage. Magical. his is remarkable in every way." 07/24 Wine Spectator 97 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator:...

Castellare di Castellina Poggio Al Merli 2014 [WS 93]
Wine Spectator 93 points. Luca Maroni 92 points. Veronelli 3 Stars. WA 91. Here's a sassy and spicy expression of Merlot. The 2014 Poggio Ai Merli is a tight and slightly nervous wine from a cool vintage. The otherwise mellow Merlot grape shows tart aromas of red fruit and cherry with spice, tobacco and white chocolate. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in new French barrique. Only 3,000 bottles are produced. Poggio ai Merli performs very well in cooler vintages (2013 is a case point). But the 2014 vintage offers a lower textural threshold and moderate persistence. ML Dec 2016. #CAST

It was an honor for me to travel back in time thanks to this vertical tasting organized by Count Francesco Marone Cinzano and his son Santiago. The Col d'Orcia 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is drinking beautifully right now. Indeed, these wines tend to be less expressive upon their commercial release, so you need to give them their due time. Col d'Orcia Chianti Classico "Gineprone" 2020
Gineprone refers to the aromatic herb Juniper and indicates how this Chianti from the Siena hills reminds the drinker of all the herbs and spices that are typical of the Mediterranean underwood. Col d'Orcia Olmaia Cabernet Sant'Antimo 2016 Organic [WA 94]
Wine Advocate 94 points. Olmaia (made with certified organic fruit) has emerged as its own brand. The wine underlines the potential of Cabernet Sauvignon in this part of Tuscany, an area almost exclusively dedicated to Sangiovese. The 2016 Sant'Antimo Cabernet Olmaia reminds us of the importance of diversity in a monoculture, which allows us to better understand the potential of a growing area. This wine reveals an inky dark appearance with thick color concentration. It is broad and full-bodied for sure, but it proceeds with nuanced grace over the senses. Black and purple fruits segue to earthy tobacco, cured leather and dark spice....
Col d'Orcia Poggio al Vento Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 [JS 98]
98 Points, James Suckling: “Super classic Brunello from a classic vintage, being released now. The perfume to this is really something, with cherries, flowers, lead pencil and light hints of graphite. Then it moves to raspberries and black cherries with some sandalwood shavings. You just want to smell it. Clear and transparent. Full-bodied with very fine and succinct tannins that fill the mouth and show super tension and form. Extremely long and structured. Col d'Orcia Poggio al Vento Brunello di Montalcino Reserva 2001
Wine Advocate 92 points. "The estate’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is a gorgeous, layered wine that reveals nuances of menthol, licorice, sweet spices, leather and plums, all of which meld together in a Brunello of remarkable balance. The wine’s ripeness and structure insure it will last for many a year to come. In fact, the tannins may well outlast the fruit. In the meantime there is much to admire here, starting with an impeccable, long finish that begs for a second taste. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2025.Antonio Galloni Nov 2009." Col d'Orcia Poggio al Vento Brunello di Montalcino Reserva 2010 [WA 97]
Wine Advocate 97 points. Aged in oak for 48 months, the Col d'Orcia 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is kept in bottle for two additional years. In other words, it is released seven years after the harvest. This wine is intensely powerful and rich, showing a hefty quality that cedes to dark fruit, grilled herb and tobacco. The vineyards are located in an ancient seabed with sandy soils. These impart salinity or minerality that comes through in all of these back vintages. This site is located at the heart of the estate, up on a hill, and is surrounded by cool woodlands. The soils are schistic galestro clay. Poggio al...
Col d'Orcia Poggio al Vento Brunello di Montalcino Reserva 2012 [WA 95]
Wine Advocate 95 points. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is a monumental wine from this storied appellation in southern Tuscany. From a warm vintage, this is a deeply textured, rich and succulent rendition of Sangiovese. You taste the exuberant flavors of sun-drenched fruit. However, you also taste some evolution (remember, we are talking about a wine released seven years after the harvest) with tarry notes of toasted spice, licorice and Spanish cedar. This wine ages in large oak casks (of various sizes) for four years followed by an additional two years in bottle. We can look forward to more bottle evolution as the...
Col d'Orcia Poggio al Vento Brunello di Monyalcino Riserva 2006 [WA 96]
Wine Advocate 96 points. The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento bursts from the glass with an exciting array of sweet dark cherries, flowers, mint and licorice. All of the elements are in the right place. The 2006 combines power and finesse to a degree I have seldom experienced in the Col d’Orcia wines. Layers of fruit flow through to the huge, authoritative finish. Readers will be tempted to try the 2006 young, and so will I, to tell the truth. Although I would love to be wrong, the reality is that the 2006 isn’t likely to be at its peak until age 20 or so. This is a fantastic showing from Col d’Orcia....

Made with certified organic fruit, the Col d'Orcia 2019 Rosso di Montalcino Banditella is another protagonist in a storyline that sees this entry-level category of wine emerge with increased importance within this storied Tuscan appellation. We will surely be seeing even more excellent Rosso in the future. This expression offers nice concentration with rich flavors of blackberry, plum and sweet earth. ML Feb 2022. "The baby Brunello". Col d'Orcia Rosso di Montalcino 2022 Organic
When the Cinzano family arrived in 1973, most of the wine bottled in Montalcino was Brunello. A second denomination, “Vino Rosso dai Vigneti di Brunello,” was used locally to improve the image of the wine sold mostly in bulk formats. Count Alberto Marone Cinzano decided that it was just the right wine for drinking every day. He used to say: “it’s the young Sangiovese I drink at lunchtime.” In 1976, three years later, Col d’Orcia already represented more than half the production of “Rosso” in Montalcino. Thanks to Col d’Orcia’s efforts in 1983, Rosso di Montalcino became a D.O.C....

But there is also a dragon represented, it is Carlo Gardini, husband to Donatella Cinelli Colombini, the owner. The Il Drago e le 8 Colombe was produced for the first time in 2005. Donatella Cinelli Colombini Brunello di M Riserva 2015 [WS 95]
Wine Spectator 95 points. Wine Advocate 94 points. The Donatella Cinelli Colombini 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows a dense and concentrated personality, owing much to the warm, sunny and delightful conditions of this epic growing season. This wine draws its fruit from a 10-hectare parcel with clay soils and wide-open skies with clouds and sunbeams, which take in most of the landscape to the north of Montalcino. This is a 9,600-bottle production. Black cherry, blackberry confit, spice and warm earth make up the bouquet. Plush and slightly sweet fruit flavors color the softly textured mouthfeel. It expresses a powerful, assertive character, complex with mineral, leather, truffle and orange peel nuances. This fantastic wine is robust with good concentration and complexity. Rich and velevty in the mouth with ripe tannins and a full bodied palate which leads into a long and lasting finish. Food Matches well with rich meat and game dishes and aged cheeses.

Wine Enthusiast 95 points/ Top 5 Brunello Riserva. Wine Advocate 94 points. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (with only 6,500 bottles made) is a layered and structured wine that delivers a polar opposite experience especially when you compare this wine to the lighthearted annata 2014 Brunello. This riserva embodies power, grit and textural richness. It also delivers a robust and slightly evolved bouquet with dark fruit, spice and leather. In comparison, the wine from 2014 is thinner and more fruit forward. This wine is suited for grilled meats and steak. It's a hearty winter wine for sure. ML Feb 2019.
Donatella Cinelli Colombini Chianti Superiore 2021
The 2021 harvest saw the vineyards have been divided into small areas based on the degree of maturation of the grapes. The harvest calendar has been built according to the maturation of each portion, ensuring that the small fermentation vats in the cellar were full every evening. This method ensure a higher respect of the fruit, which is always picked at the moment when the grapes reach the perfect ripeness, increasing the quality of the wines. Fattoria del Colle has always produced Chianti until, in 1997, the new superior typology was born and Donatella Cinelli Colombini decided to focus on it by selecting grapes from the best...
Donatella Cinelli Colombini Prime Donne Brunello 2016 [WA 96]
Wine Advocate 96 points. Opening to a dark color and rich concentration, the Donatella Cinelli Colombini 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Prime Donne (with 6,600 bottles made) shows a lot of fun character. I want to say that the wine is more modern or contemporary in style, but that's not really true. Yes, there's more fruity richness here, but the bouquet is also very vertical in intensity, lifted and bright. There's a fine spot of sweet cheery and tart apple skin. There is no heaviness. The fruit comes from a six-hectare site at a low 225 meters above sea level with medium-rich soils and lots of clay. That richness that I described...

James Suckling 90 points. Vinous Media 90 points. Made from Brunello grapes from the Colombini estate vineyards, selected to emphasise the alluring softness and rich, flattering fruit flavours that resonate without the dominance of oak and tannin. The nose is wonderfully fragrant with red berries, spice and herbs whilst the rich and vibrant palate offers hints of black cherry and mineral with a warm, opulent and very long finish. Food A good match for rich meat dishes, full flavoured or spicy pastas and mature cheeses.
Donatella Cinelli Leone Rosso (Organic) 2020
The rampant lion is the symbol of Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s ancestors who built Fattoria del Colle in 1592. Donatella received the estate from her father Fausto Cinelli in 1998 and has dedicated to the Socini family the first wine that she produced here, the “Leone Rosso” DOC Orcia. Leone Rosso is a family wine, produced in the 17 hectares of vineyard at Fattoria del Colle, vinified and aged in the estate winery. Feudi del Pisciotto (Valentino) Merlot 2018 IGT [WS 91]
Wine Specytator 91 points. A last minute disagreement with Valentino has resulted in the merlot being released without the designers name. Merlot loves sunshine and Sicilian merlot delivers the love. It is lush, plush, chewy and delectable. Think Sofia Loren rather than Kate Moss. Lots of cherry, plums and exotic spice. Produced from one of the first vineyards planted on the Feudi del Pisciotto estates. A Merlot that expresses the full potential and character of this grape variety, which finds an ideal form of expression in Sicily’s terroir. Feudi del Pisciotto Davolarosa Brut NV
A sparkling rosé with a Sicilian character, made from the best Nero d’Avola grapes of Feudi del Pisciotto vineyards: fine and persistent perlage, fresh and intense bouquet, great flavor and drinkability. A persistent perlage and a brilliant and tenuous coral pink color. The nose is intense and delicate with seducting notes of roses and citrus fruits. The palate is harmonic, fruity and savory, with a fresh and long finish.

As is the case with the Nero d’Avola variety, Frappato also demonstrates Sicily’s full winemaking potential, able to produce a powerful, persistent and very elegant wine that inspires the taster from its very first olfactory notes, which characterise it in an unmistakable manner. Label drawn by Carolina Marengo. Distinguished by its ruby red colour and a fresh bouquet of red berry fruits and sweet spices. Round on the palate, with a lively acidity, the wine is well balanced and persistent.
