"The estate’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is a gorgeous, layered wine that reveals nuances of menthol, licorice, sweet spices, leather and plums, all of which meld together in a Brunello of remarkable balance. The wine’s ripeness and structure insure it will last for many a year to come. In fact, the tannins may well outlast the fruit. In the meantime there is much to admire here, starting with an impeccable, long finish that begs for a second taste. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2025.Antonio Galloni Nov 2009."

"This vintage saw frost during the spring months, and that could explain the more evolved state of the Col d'Orcia 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento. The same thing happened in the 1985 vintage that evolved very quickly, says Count Francesco Marone Cinzano. However, in this case, fruit came from higher up the hill where frost was less problematic. This Riserva shows an elegant, medium-plus mouthfeel with supple tannins. It offers dark fruit and a touch of dusty minerality." ML Nov 2024.
