Gineprone refers to the aromatic herb Juniper and indicates how this Chianti from the Siena hills reminds the drinker of all the herbs and spices that are typical of the Mediterranean underwood. Complex and full bodied yet approachable and fruity, Gineprone is the Montalcino version of the Chianti wine that has made Tuscany famous around the world.

When the Cinzano family arrived in 1973, most of the wine bottled in Montalcino was Brunello. A second denomination, “Vino Rosso dai Vigneti di Brunello,” was used locally to improve the image of the wine sold mostly in bulk formats. Count Alberto Marone Cinzano decided that it was just the right wine for drinking every day. He used to say: “it’s the young Sangiovese I drink at lunchtime.” In 1976, three years later, Col d’Orcia already represented more than half the production of “Rosso” in Montalcino. Thanks to Col d’Orcia’s efforts in 1983, Rosso di Montalcino became a D.O.C....

Organic. We selected this fine rose from a lineup of 40 different labels from Provence. It ticks all the boxes for us....lifted aromatics, good acidity, full flavoured with a long, refreshing dry finish. Hard to beat. VARIETALS Grenache - 50%; Cinsault - 30%; Syrah - 20% Light pink in color, with violet shades, this wine possesses a memorable and complex aroma. Chardonnay is perhaps the one that has the best adaptability among all non-native white grape varieties. An ancient grape variety, historically indigenous to the Tortonese hills, Timorasso, now brought back to life by taking the name Derthona. Timorasso  is one of those wines that could be described as a “red dressed as white”, an overabused expression used to describe white wines with a particular and abundant structure. The area where the vine is cultivated in Piemonte borders Lombardy, Emilia and Liguria: the  Colli Tortonesi . Interesting nose, some ripe red berry fruit, crushed starwberry, also some apple and almost herbal, stemmy notes, touch of apple. Palate too, lovely mix of soft, ripe, perfumed cherry and strawberry fruit, then some stemmy, herbal character, dried flowers, layered, complex interesting wine with touch of spice, some dry fine tannin, but core is lovely soft red berry fruit. Nice balance too. Fresh, long, lifted. Hard not to drink. Just a touch natural on the finish, bit of apple....

We have scoured the Italian landscape looking for the best truffle paste we could find. (Nothing is as good as fresh but unfortunately they are seasonal and often unattainable.) Most pestos have a black truffle content of 5% or less, and the list of artificial ingrdients added can be quite confronting. Don't look too closely at the ingredients list on the jars in your local supermarket, you might feel ill. We finally settled on this fine product from the Giuliano family in Umbria. It is head and shoulders above competing products we. have seen in Singapore. No comparison really nothing else even comes close. No artificial ingredients....

Cellar door price 65 aud. 94pts Ken Gargett, " From a single vineyard in the Barossa, with 70-year-old vines, the wine spent 22 months maturing in French oak. The colour is an inky magenta. There is slightly more austerity here than in many Barossa offerings, as one would expect. Notes of blackberries, cigar box, aniseed, leather, coffee grinds, dry herbs and figs with a fine line of acidity. The palate is rich and long with firm and ever-so-slightly grainy tannins while more chocolate notes emerge on the palate. Terrific drinking for the next 12 to 20 years.  #GREN

Winemaker's Notes We hand picked and whole bunch pressed each block separately before vinifying as Individual lots. Fermentations were long and quite cool between 14 and 16 degrees. Judiciously selected noble Botrytis bunches were Included at between 5 and 10% of the overall fruit selection. Lots were blended together after five months on yeast lees, before estate bottling without fining. Lime blossom, peach and red apple on the nose with a long, flavoursome palate of honeydew, pink grapefruit and quince.  

This is an intriguing experiment that places the estate benchmark wine (24 months  in large Slovenian barrels) into a stone amphora for a further 6 months of maturation. Try one side by side with the barrel aged version. There is a remarkable difference. Only 6000 bottles produced.

Not overly complex or long, but certainly overly delicious. CAB 20: 92 pts NEAL MARTIN (Vinous). Dark ruby red in colour, this vintage has a vibrant bouquet of ripe red berry fruit, cassis, vanilla pudding, and a hint of dried herbs. The pallet is soft and rich. The tannins are round and gentle, while the natural acidity keeps the ripe fruit in check. Savoury notes of cocoa and cloves add character to the bright red strawberry and mulberry flavours which linger into a long, luscious, juicy finish. Drink 2023 – 2035.  

Terrasse is a seamless, skilfully blended cuvée of Chenin Blanc with 54% Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier and Marsanne. Barrel-fermented and aged in older oak, it's floral, spicy and intense, marrying citrus, pear and clementine flavours and a touch of tannic grip. 2023-28. 70% Corvina and Corvinone; 30% Rondinella, Croatina and Molinara. Light ruby in color, the nose has copious smoky mineral, a touch of fresh tobacco and cherry scent. Light medium in body, with a broad mouth feel and good acidity, fine tannins provide very good structure and focus. The flavours are slightly herbaceous and very savoury, with a great deal of saliva-inducing mineral. The finish is well balanced, firm and reserved, and has very good length.

Jasper Morris 94 points. Clear pale lemon. The nose does not really speak at this stage. The volume of fruit is present, but perhaps not quite the nobility. Perhaps this is just very backward, with saline and citrus notes, with clearly some concentration on the palate. Drink from 2024.
