Riesling

This new project from the granite soils in the northern end of the Macedon Ranges at 460m above sea level is an exciting addition to our activities. The vineyard was established in 1995 and the fruit has ostensibly been “lost” interstate until new Victorian owners took over in spring 2021. The new regime has quickly invested in the infrastructure and fine-tuned activities and several top producers are sourcing fruit from this excellent site. The Riesling was harvested in mid April and wild yeast fermented in old French oak then matured for six months on fine yeast lees. In the winemaking mind it was important to preserve/respect...

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front, AUG23 96 Points Well, seriously, the 2023 Grosset rieslings are wonderful. This has you at hello. It’s structured and a touch reserved but there’s decent flavour both at the outset and throughout and then the finish, well, it saves its best for last. This wine really does seal the deal. Chalk, lime, fennel, a grainy/skinsy aspect to the finish but this is a wine of great fruit purity, finesse and finish. It’s delicious. It impresses with its structure. Wine Advocate 91 points. 2022 was an excellent follow on from the excellent 2021 vintage. This 2022 Killerman's Run Riesling is spritely, inchoate and so tightly coiled at this point that the acidity and the phenolics are seamlessly intertwined. Really great value here—pristine Riesling. Fermented in a 10-degree room over three weeks before being transferred to a one-degree room, where the ferment was left to stop naturally. 17g/L of RS. A bright green gold. Unlike the '24 early on, this leaps out of the glass with its aromas of stone fruit, makrut lime, gardenia and spice. Almost comes across as dry, such is the balance of the fruit, RS and acidity. James Halliday Wine Companion 96 points. Cane-cut Coal River riesling weighing in at around 136g/L RS. Straw in the glass with characters of apple, lime, peach, candied citrus rind, clover and orange blossom, apple pie, crushed riverstone and crème brûlée. Once again that beautiful acidity struts its stuff, drawing all the rich flavours into relief and applying tension and velocity in the process, finishing long and unctuous. Superb. 96 points.
