"The 2023 Camí Pesseroles is mostly Cariñena with some Garnacha (depending on the yields from Garnacha) from head-pruned old vines planted in 1939, harvested together and co-fermented (which changes in 2024). The grapes were foot trodden and fermented in an open-top oak vat, and since 2017, the wine has matured in a chestnut foudre. It has a serious and harmonious nose and 14% alcohol, reflecting the climate. It is concentrated and has some earthiness. It feels more classical. This is a sulfured cuvée, with sulfur added at bottling time, as Cariñena and slate are more difficult to do without added sulfites."

In the heart of Priorat, the Camí Pesseroles, an ancient and strategic royal road that connected the towns of Gratallops and Porrera, continues to bear witness to the history of a wine region steeped in tradition. This road, once bustling with trade and transport, has woven stories throughout time and today lends its name to one of the most emblematic wines of the winery Mas Martinet, founded by José Luís Pérez, a pioneer in the revival of Priorat (Catalonia).
The Pérez family, with a clear vision and profound respect for the land, has left an indelible mark on the viticulture of Priorat. Since José Luís Pérez ventured into this territory in the 1980s, his research, recovery of lost varietals, and commitment to organic viticulture have charted the course for Mas Martinet. Currently, his daughter, Sara Pérez, leads the winery, keeping the family philosophy of innovation and sustainability alive, while adding her own unique perspective.
Mas Martinet Camí de Pesseroles pays homage to the deep roots of Priorat viticulture. Originating from a vineyard over 80 years old, planted on licorella soils and steep slopes, this fresh and aromatic wine is born from plots situated along the ancient royal road. Garnachas and cariñenas are harvested manually and transported in the traditional way using chestnut carriers, and in the winery, they are foot-crushed, with fermentation occurring with native yeasts in open wooden vats. Afterwards, the wine is aged in chestnut barrels and demijohns until bottling.
Adhering to the ancestral techniques of the region, each bottle of Mas Martinet Camí de Pesserole sencapsulates the essence of the terroir. It is a quest to honor the character of wines from the past while maintaining the modernity and environmental respect that distinguish the Pérez family. A wine brimming with minerality, rusticity, and the strength of a nearly century-old vineyard, which continues to convey the essence of Priorat and its history in every sip. A gem for lovers of fine wine!
