Burghound 91 points. la Bataillère aux Vergelesses – Red – Monopole. Organic. "A subtle dollop of wood along with a mentholated top note can be found on the slightly earthier liqueur-like aromas of dark currant, black raspberry and forest floor scents. The sleek, vibrant and solidly rich medium-bodied flavors possess a lovely mid-palate mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the mildly rustic and lingering finale. This needs to develop more depth but this wine has a good track record of doing just that if allowed sufficient time. Worth your interest." Burghound 91 points. "Here too there is a touch of straw character to the aromas of petrol, various citrus and apple. There is fine punch to the more mineral-driven flavors that also possess a lemony and sneaky long finish that isn't quite as complex or structured. To enjoy young." AM April 2021 Burghound Next to the famous Clos des Mouches, in the middle of the hillside, our Aigrots are oriented to the East. This climate, with stony soil and rich in silt and clay, produces full-bodied and generous red wines (75 acres) to be enjoyed with grilled red meats.

Burghound 91 points. Organic. "A plethora of floral elements, especially violet, combines with notes of spiced plum and cherry. The medium weight flavors are not as concentrated but they're finer thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the bitter cherry pit-inflected finish that is both dusty and refreshing finish. This needs better depth, but the development potential appears promising." AM April 2021 With an area of 1, 27 ha, this plot located in the middle of the hillside looks to the Southeast. Otherwise there is fine freshness and verve to the more refined middle weight flavors that also possess good underlying tension while exhibiting good length on the textured finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This too could use more depth but it's already attractive." AM April 2021 Burghound This 1.27-hectare vineyard (3 acres) is located at the bottom of the slope. This small plot (1.2 acres / 0.3 ha) is located at the foot of the slope. The name “Les Grèves” comes from the composition of the soil: light and stony. The red wines present fine fruit notes and delicate flavours. They are perfect with a wild mushroom quiche, red meats or cheeses such as Cîteaux, Reblochon, etc. "Here too there is a similar mentholated nose on the spiced plum, dark cherry and warm earth-suffused aromas that are trimmed in enough wood to mention. There is excellent volume to the moderately dense medium-bodied flavors that possess a velvety, even seductive, texture while displaying fine power on the less refined but more robust finish. This is definitely more structured and a wine that's going to need at least some patience first though this is often the case with Grèves. One to consider." This too is very promising though it's a wine that's going to need at least 5 to 7 years of cellaring first." This also is going to require at least some forbearance and is a wine that should amply repay extended keeping." ‘50/50’ describes the partnership of winemakers Anne Gros and Jean-Paul Tollot. From the fields to the cellar, all work is divided equally. Finesse and precision are the two main characteristics of these Minervois wines, words more often used to describe Gros’ Burgundian Crus rather than the concentrated reds of the south. The estate’s 35 acres of old vines in Cazelles grow on a plateau at the foot of the Montagne Noir, 660 feet above sea level, the same altitude as Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy. This breathtaking region boasts exceptional terroir, as both limestone and chalk-rich fossils are abundant. The winemaking is hand-harvested...

Anne Gros is one of the superstars of Burgundy, a winemaker whose talents lie in crafting exquisite wines from her Domaine based in Vosne-Romanee. Her estate in Minervois, in partnership with Jean-Paul Tollot, also crafts excellent wines. The serious winemaking skill brought by this couple means that these wines are achieving immense acclaim from the critics. Jeb Dunnuck notes that these are "serious, structured and age-worthy efforts," while David Schildknecht notes that "they are rendering wines unlike any others in Minervois, or indeed the whole of the Languedoc." This is Anne’s ‘great terroir’ wine, one that benefits from a unique...

Jeb Dunnuck 95-97 points. Wine Advocate 94 points. Because of its rich tannic structure, I expect the 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père to be among the longer-lived wines from this estate. It's loaded with concentrated notes of plums, raspberries and cherries, all delivered on a full-bodied, velvety palate and ending with chewy tannins and salted licorice. JC Aug 2019.

Jeb Dunnuck 93-95 points. Wine Advocate 94 points. Deeper, earthier and spicier than the other bottlings, the 2018 Châteauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père is essentially all old-vine Grenache from the La Gardiole lieu dit. Dustings of cinnamon, allspice and clove accent black cherries and loam on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich and velvety, ending long and softly dusty. It should be the longest-lived of the magnificent trio of 2018 reds produced at Bosquet des Papes. JC Sep 2020.

The perfumed, floral, cherry herbal tea-scented 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes isn't overly dark or dense, but captures the more fragrant, silky side of Grenache. It's full-bodied and ripe, with some faint, chocolaty overtones yet retains a sense of elegance and—dare I say it, in a wine that's labeled 15.5% alcohol—delicacy, finishing with silky tannins and ample length. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and concentrated, with nice grip and persistence on the finish, where it picks up hints of cocoa powder and ground cloves. It's turned out even better—more structured and complete—than I expected after last year's visit to the estate. The vines are all 80 to 90 years old, selected from parcels in Brusquières, Gardiole, Mont-Redon and Pignan. Glorious raspberry and cherry fruit picks up hints of mint and some stemmy notes, but they're remarkably well-integrated and should be completely absorbed within a couple of years. Waves of raspberry and cherry fruit are seductive on the nose, then crash over the palate with a tsunami of concentration and power. Winery Notes: The reds are quite dark in colour, their shades varying from deep rubythrough crimson to garnet. While young, the wine’s aroma suggests a spring garden with small red fruits (raspberry, strawberry) and black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry). These intensify with age and evolve into peony and jasmine, preserved and brandied fruits, pistachio, prune, leather, truffle, mushroom and cinnamon. The deep soil begets a vigorous, full-bodied Pinot Noir, robust yet refined. Tender and fruity, this wine reaches its peak after 3 to 5 years in the cellar, revealing a firm and well-built body, richly chewy and with pleasing tannins.
