This 67-ha plot is located at the top of the slope, facing southeast. It benefits from a limestone soil mixed with silt, sand, and clay. This terroir extends across both the communes of Beaune and Savigny.

The name is thought to originate from the Marcomanni (from the Latin Marcomani, "men of the border"), a West Germanic tribe documented until the 4th century. This type of Germanic origin is common in the region after the Frankish invasion, particularly for river names around Beaune. The place name appears in medieval sources as Marconain in 1270 and then Marconnay in 1294, indicating that a stream once originated in this locality.

This wine is distinguished by its power and aromatic complexity. Perfect with veal paupiettes with mushrooms, meats in sauce, game birds, or pressed cheeses such as Cîteaux, Saint Nectaire and Reblochon.
