Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru Les Cent Vignes 2020 [BH 90-92]
Burghound 90-92 points. This 1.27-hectare vineyard (3 acres) is located at the bottom of the slope. It enjoys a soil composed mainly of clay and loams. Pottery fragments found in this vineyard show that this was a farming settlement in Gallo-Roman times. After the farm disappeared, the site remained without vines for a long time before being planted again. “Sanvignes” [vineless] then changed to “Cent-Vignes” [hundred vines] – since a plot with vines cannot be “Vineless”! These reds are remarkable for their colour and the delicacy of their aromas. In the mouth, they combine complexity with mellowness.
Albert Morot Sauvigny 1er Cru La Batalliere Blanc 2020 [JM 89]
Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy, 89 points. A plot of 0.60ha replanted with chardonnay in 2013. Arnaldo Caprai Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni 2016 [WA 95]
Tre Bicchieri, Gambero Rosso. Wine Advocate 95 points. This bottle is a true ambassador for Umbria. You get ample varietal tones in the 2016 Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni, with bitter chocolate and baking spice, but Caprai does a terrific job of softening up and fleshing out the Sagrantino grape to display a more contemporary and ultimately more approachable and versatile wine. Bissoni Sangiovese Superiore Girapoggio 2019 DOC Organic [Gold]
Awarded Gold Medal and "People's Crown" , voted by readers of Vini Buoni d'Italia. 2 Bicchieri Gambero Rosso. Raffaella Bissoni is a remarkable woman whom we first met in 2015. We had been told by the conoscenti that she has been leading a quiet revolution in Romagna to reinstate the region as an internationally reknowned producer of sangiovese. Given that Tuscany has long held the spotlight for all sangiovese wines we were both curious and skeptical. That was until we tried her wines. They are outstanding and represent excellent value. The winery now exports to 10 countries, with the USA being the largest taker....

All enveloped in notes of vanilla, caramel, black pepper and smoke. A well-structured wine, with ripe, sweet tannins on the palate. It has a long life ahead of it. Wine Spectator 92 points. Bosquet des Papes CDP La Folie 2019 [WA 94-96]
Wine Advocate 94-96. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre from a one-hectare parcel in the Mont Redon lieu-dit, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape la Folie was still in barrel at the time of my visit. Produced only in exceptional vintages (2007, 2015, 2016), it offers up notes of cedar, vanilla and mint alongside ripe black cherries. It's not new oak, but it must still be relatively young, and the result is a big, rich, rather New World-styled wine guaranteed to please open-minded hedonists and horrify stodgy traditionalists. Velvety, plush and long on the finish, there's no denying the quality here, although whether you will...
Cantina Kaltern Quintessence Moscato Passito 2016 375ml [WA 96]
Wine Advocate 96 points. The Cantina Kaltern 2016 Alto Adige Moscato Giallo Passito Quintessenz (packaged in a 375-milliliter bottle, with just 5,000 bottles made) shows a brilliant golden color with glossy amber and copper highlights. This beautifully fragrant dessert wine reveals honey, yellow rose, tropical fruit, candied almond and acacia flower. The wine is viscous and syrupy rich, with ample sweetness and glycerin. However, that balanced acidity ensures that these results never feel heavy or overdone. The alcohol content is well contained at 10.5%. The wine balances out nicely over the palate. Fruit comes from a southwest-facing slope...
Cantina Tramin "Stoan" Alto Adige Bianco Blend 2020 [JS 93]
James Suckling 93 points. The upfront aromas of yellow grapefruit and ripe gooseberry are classic sauvignon blanc, but as it aerates, pear and ripe apple notes emerge. On the palate, there’s a parallel, nicely intertwined combination of brightness and creaminess, until you splash land in the juicy, exotic finish. Just reaching it’s best drinking form, but still fresh. A cuvee based on chardonnay with sauvignon blanc, gewurztraminer and pinot blanc. Drink or hold. WINERY NOTES: Stoan is a unique wine of its kind reflecting the complexity and potential of our region. It is a lively blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc...

Chard Farm Closeburn Chardonnay 2022
winemaker’s comments: Closeburn is our un-oaked Chardonnay. The fruit is grown throughout the Central Otago region and exhibits the regions natural elegant fruit flavours and mineral complexity. The wine is fermented in tank to retain its bright fruit. It is then left to rest on its yeast lees to gain some doughy complexity and softness. This is a refreshing full-bodied wine, unencumbered by oak and superb with food. Juicy nectarine and pear fruits, with apple blossom floral tones giving a nice lift to the attractive bouquet. The palate displays wonderful purity of tree fruit flavour. There is a nice flow to the structure and length,...

HUON HOOKE, THE REAL REVIEW 2022, 94 points. Very deep, bright red/purple colour. Spicy, peppery, fresh earth and red fruit aromas of some complexity, especially considering its youth. The wine is medium to full-bodied and soft-textured, with no shortage of tannin, but the texture is supple and drying, the fine-grained powery tannins augmenting the savoury flavours. 95 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine Companion 30yo vines, hand-picked, destemmed, whole berries, open-fermented, 8 days on skins, only free-run juice, 3 months in old puncheons, 3 months in a concrete egg. A rare thing: a mataro that is full of juicy fruit and soft tannins. WINERY NOTES: Aromas of forest floor, blackberry and thyme. It is an amazing wine with true presence and vibrancy. Rich, juicy, textural and earthy with delicately balanced acidity. Cellar now — 2033. Total production 1920 bottles. #95
